P67 or Z68

I'm going to be doing an upgrade in the next week or so, and I'm unsure which chipset to go for P67 or Z68?

I will be buying an I7 2600K, and I already have 12GB of Corsair xms3 1600MHz.
GFX is a 5870.

I'm just unsure of the differences between these 2 chipsets.
From what I can gather, Z68 is the better one as it has more features.
If you need to ask me any questions, please ask.

Thanks.

It's the latter, 2X2 + 2X4.
I was considering getting a 2nd set of 2x4GB with the new system, and then putting the 2x2GB in with my current motherboard and sell it off as a nice bundle...think it might be a good idea?

The main benefits of Z68 are:

-You can use video output from the IGP which is on the sandy bridge CPU (not all Z68 boards support this)
- You can use Intel Quick Sync technology to transcode certain videos types very quickly and in high quality (again, requires a Z68 board which can access the IGP)
- Allows overclocking and the IGP features mentioned above (CPU overclocking not possible on the earlier H67 chipset)
- Using Lucid virtu you can make use of Intel Quick sync even if you have a discrete graphics card installed (with H67 you needed to use the onboard graphics output for this tech to work)
- SSD caching (great to use a small/cheap SSD to speed up the performance of a mechanical primary HDD - more info here, however if you can afford to buy an SSD 60GB or larger then I would ignore this caching technology and just uses the SSD as the primary drive)

If you think you will make good use some of these feature then you may want to go for a fully featured Z68 board like this. If you don't then you may as well go for a cheaper (but still feature packed) P67 board like this and spend the money saved on a faster GPU/CPU/SSD.

Yeah, personally I feel that the SSD cacheing is a great idea atm if you only use a handful or games/apps - we'll see how the reviewing goes though. I dont see any reason not to take a Z68 over a P67 at the moment :)

I already got an SSD which will do for now, there are faster ones out which I could take advantage of with the new mobo. I think I'd be more likely to get the Z68 for the resale value.

How big is your current SSD? If its large enough to fit everything you play/use then thats perfect. With the Z68 SSD Caching in future if you find it isnt big enough then you can use part of the SSD to case the data that is stored on the HDD as far as I understand it. So it's a little bit of future proofing too :)

Phil3, your signature is also too big.

You may use a signature (commonly used in email messages) in your posts. You can specify in your profile a signature to use at the bottom of your posts. When you post, there is an option to use your signature. A signature may contain one or more images but they must fit within a box with maximum dimensions of 400 x 75 pixels (width x height) and with a maximum (combined) file size of 20k. Images containing mostly very large words or animated .gifs will not be permitted. You may also add 1 consecutive lines of normal or smaller text directly above or underneath the image with no spaces inbetween image and text. If no images are used then up to 4 consecutive lines of normal or smaller text is permitted. Do not pad out your text lines with blanks lines. A line of text is defined as having a maximum length of 400 pixels. If you want to turn the signature off in the future, you can come back and edit your post. If you have specified a signature in your profile, the box will be automatically ticked for you.
The forum Dons/Admins reserve the right to judge individual signatures, particularly those deemed to contain material of an adult or offensive nature. If the Dons/Admins think the signature is unsuitable for a family orientated forum, then it will be removed. If the user then replaces it without making changes, they will be suspended.
