Hi,

My girlfriend's been given an endorsable FPN for driving with no insurance - conviction code ZO6F - does anyone recognise this code? I can't find it anywhere on the conviction list for my insurance (she's a named driver) or the Direct.gov website.

The situation: Her dad called her on Monday night, asking her to pick him up from the pub, as he'd had a couple of pints and didn't want to drive. We were driving past, and I dropped her off. Meanwhile, an unmarked Police car had been in the pub carpark, noting all the car's numberplates, and pulling everyone over to breathalise them etc.

My girlfriend (in her parent's Motability car) was pulled over, all the routine checks were performed, nothing found to be wrong, and was told to be on her way. Come this morning at 10am, a Police car pulls up outside her out, and she (and her Dad) are given Fixed Penalty Notices for no insurance.

What I can't quite get my head around is why her Dad was also convicted (same code - no insurance), when he was insured on the car in question, and was simply a passenger?

Has anyone got any idea if this is able to be appealed? Also, anyone with any clue about the conviction code?

Thanks :)

I thought ZO6F was for "You are guilty of the offence of permitting the vehicle to be used by an uninsured driver" which attracts 6-8points + fine.

That would match the her fathers code but not hers which I would have expected to be an IN10.

if she isnt a named driver on the insurance, she is screwed, and there isnt much can be done, on disability cars, you can have 2 people on it, doesnt matter what kind of insurance she has on another vehicle, nobody else can drive a disability car other than named drivers, if he allowed her to drive it and she wasnt a named driver then its the correct way the police have acted, unfortunately.

good point

did both get the same codes ?

If her insurance allows her to drive another car she does not own would that not over her :S

Thats what I thought, if you had insurance on your car... you can drive another car and are covered 3rd party only (unless named etc)?

Has this rule changed? Ive driven the mother in laws car a few times assuming this was the case!

I think it's to do with the Motability Insurance rules so gets kinda complicated.

However what I don't understand is why the OP simply didn't give his GF's dad a ride home in his car and then return to pick up the other one in the morning?

Easiest way to deal with things like that imo!

I'm a driver on my wifes motability car.
From the RSA motability insurance policy:
Only drivers approved by RSAM and named as permitted drivers on your Certificate of Motor Insurance are insured to drive.
If you intend to drive your Motability car you must be named as a permitted driver on the certificate
Other drivers are not allowed. Even if they have fully comprehensive insurance which provides cover to drive other cars, they are not covered to drive your Motability car.

It's because you have to have the OWNER'S permission to drive on your own insurance. Motability seem to have specifically denied that permission on their cars.

Some are, most aren't.
My wife is visually impaired and qualifies for the car by exchanging her Disability Living Allowance for the car.
Obviously being blind she can't drive and I'm one of her two nominated drivers.

Only if you specifically have DOC on your own cover, which isn't a standard clause (especially so if you're under 25).
