Sorry, my mistake. I always thought house spider and garden spider was an interchangeable term and the one you pictured was an orb spider. Mainly because I used to find loads of them in our garden as a kid (and no nothing about spiders besides "Run away!").

as long as its dead thats all that matters.

although people need to start putting something in the picture with the spider for scale.

Loos like the next stage of evolution for them. Frig me that's big!

Be aware, if it evolves anymore, it'll be chatting to you!

Probably T.domestica (House Spider), it's almost impossible to identify Tegeneria down to species level by eye.

As has been mentioned it's just a house spider. I found a pretty big one a while back scurrying across our lounge, the cheeky barsteward! He was promptly caught and slowly burnt!

Pics of him in a normal pint glass.

Put it on you hand for scale. Then put your hand on a loaf of bread for authenticity. Doesn't look very big in the picture to me.

On your one, look at the shorter legs at the front of the spider - can you see they have a sort of bulb, enlarged pipette like object on the end of them?
They are the pedipalps, in mature male spiders they are used to inseminate the female.

EDIT
Mature males are also generally longer legged and smaller bodied than the females (not always, but it is generally true)

I see, interesting info cheers. The one I caught that's in the picture has to be the biggest I've ever come across. I can't imagine they'd get a great deal bigger than that one.

No, but they do get more numerous. From the looks of your one I'd guess she's going to spawn hundreds.
