Hi everyone,

I was wondering it people on here could help me out a little bit please. I am wanting to get myself a new MAC but I don't know all that much about them, preferably a Mac book rather than an Imac but I am open to either option.

I have had an Imac previously but it is about 4 years old now, probably older and I never did anything to upgrade it and it is still runnin on Tiger.

I'm mainly asking as I am unsure on what type of specs would be good for what I want it for. I don't want it for high end gaming as I have my Gaming PC for that, but I want it for things like Web Design, Graphic design etc, and the odd game here or there.

I don't really want to spend too much on one though, maybe something inbetween £1000 and £1300. So if I was doing things like design, what processor speed and RAM would you reccomend for example?

Thanks in advance

dont buy the ram upgrade from apple, I just bagged 8gb for my mbp from a massive memory manufacturer for £56.99 ram is dirt cheap!!!

I am on my 3rd macbook in just under 5 years.

The first one I kept for 2 years, and the 2nd for 3 years ( and is in the for sale section). The 3rd is a macbook pro which I bought a few weeks ago.

Sorry for not saying thanks to everyone, so I know it is late but thank's everyone.

I went out and bought a 13" Macbook Pro on Saturday, I am enjoying it so far and it is certainly doing everything I want it to do. I luckily got it on buy now and pay in 9 months, normally I get rejected.

Thanks again all.

Is that through Apple, or some sort of catalogue? With Apple I believe their finance over 12 months is 0% interest. :)

I actually got it from Currys. I didn't even think of trying the official Apple store to be honest so I just got it from Currys.

I chose a Macbook as it's so much easier for me to take it from one place to another, as I'm hoping to learn design and what not, and as where I wanted to keep my PC for gaming etc I thought I'd use my Mac for design. Plus I wanted XCode again. Only to find out you don't get it free anymore :(.

I wouldn't bother with the 21.5 inch version as from personal experience at work it is one of the worst designed iMac.

The screen size is weird compared to the norm e.g 20", 24" and 27". The stand is way too low and you end of looking down at your screen or use a stand.

And going from 24 > 21.5" feels horrible, but switching between 24 and 27 is seamless.

I would recommend you get the newer 27" if you can save up a bit, otherwise look out for older 27" on apple refubished store or go down to your local retailers for clearance stock.

I actually find that odd I have 27 iMac and use 24" acd one with mac mini I also have a 21.5" iMac and find it just so nice to browse on much easier than the 27" due to large wastage of screen so I think the 21.5" is a very good option I do a bit of video on it actually mre the the 27"s I do use them for pictures and that's because of the extra screen space

I think the 21.5" fits in very well actually and either I would skip the 24 and go 27"

But each to there own and again I actually prefer my 13" pro to 15 and 17 which I have had and when I want bigger I plug them in to the acd I have
