2011 Weight Loss Thread!

Well I've been going to Gym twice a week for over a month now and don't think I've shifted anything :D, I think I need to cut back on eating rubbish and go for small jogs during the week.

Though I've started to notice triceps/biceps are coming up and my calves are looking pretty solid :D.

I'll have to take a photo to monitor my progress at some point.

Finally given in and have become the wife's Slimming World guinea pig. She's already lost a ton of weight on it in the past year, so I'm letting her manage my diet. I just eat what I'm given. :)

Lost 6lbs last week without visiting the gym. Good start.

I'll be travelling on business this week, though, so will likely put a chunk of that back on with trying to survive on hotel food etc. in the middle of nowhere.

Finally dropped down to under 20st, was 19st 12 on Friday morning, that said though I had a bad weekend and I'm scared to get back on the scales incase my weight starts with a 2 again!

My bikes in for a service at the moment so haven't cycled to work since Wednesday, will hopefully have it back today though.

Ive lost a fair bit in the last 2 years.. was 22stone now 17 stone.

I seem to have levelled out now at 17stone eating normally and having the odd treat. I have clearly reached a point where i have to either eat less calories or do some dreaded excercise! hahahahaha

Ive made the mental decision now to shift the last 2 stone as im aiming for 15 stone, im not a small built bloke, never have been. But the last 2 stone should make me look a lot better as its now all belly fat and moobs :p

The impetus has come due to attempting to date a girl i really liked and being told she would if i didnt have such a big belly!... shes got a point it is a bit unsightly! Im not that fussed about her anymore as shes clearly quite a shallow person but its given me that boot up the bum to do it! so thanks hun :p

Difference of about 7lb + a full body shot in bottom picture, probably weigh 20st 5 in the lower picture, 6ft4 tall.

You weight 20 stone 5 in the BOTTOM picture? You look very thin in the shoulders etc to be carrying that kinda weight!

I am generally a heavy person for my size,

This is me at just over 20 stone:

This is me a few days ago at 17 stone 6 lbs, with an 18.5" Neck and fairly wide shoulders. When i was 20 stone i looked very wide, which you dont!

I'm also 6'4 for reference.

I'm 5'11" and weight 17st. A year ago I was 19st, a simple diet change lost me those 2 stone, I cut out the crisps and other unhealthy snacks, I also rarely drink alcohol. It had to be done as I'm a type 1 diabetic, which also makes losing weight a little more difficult as you have to maintain blood-sugar levels, change insulin dosage, etc.

I had to change the type of insulin I inject recently, so I took the opportunity to adjust my diet along with it, I'm now basically eating 2 bowls of cereal, and 1 other meal a day (my diet is essentially ALL carbs, I have little choice). I'm also starting to do some exercise every other day. I'm hoping to lose 1 stone by around late summer.

An update on my situation.

I cut out as much carbs as possible, replaced cereal with bread. I exercise 3 nights a week, 45 mins on a rowing machine and some weights after. I've lost over a stone and now weight just under 16 stone. I'm now hoping to lose another stone by late August/early September.

Great work so far Pixel! How has the weight loss affected your diabetes out of interest? Do you think if you carry on losing weight you'll no longer be diabetic or was it not triggered by your weight/diet originally?

...coming up to my 1yr anniversary of starting my Diet this friday, starting weight just under 21st....

Weighed myself on monday.....11st 8lbs...9st 4lbs lost all told...:D

It's strange but i dont know what to do on Friday though, as my plan was to turn myself around in 1yr, and TBH, i've done it, for the last 12mths it really has defined my whole life in terms of goals, and now its achieved, i'm at abit of a loss as to what to do next...., as technically my diet will finish on friday...its almost as if i'll miss being on the diet..as getting on those scales once a week was something to look forward to, a sense of real achievment, a good news day if you like...is that weird..?, anyway its a nice problem to have..:p

Just wish i had some before and after pics to show you guys, but when i started, for some reason, i thought doing that might jinx the whole thing, so i didnt bother...:(

Now the real hard work starts in keeping it off.

True....but the plan is to stick to weighing myself once a week without fail, and stay under 12st...if i ever go above that, straight back on the diet for a few weeks...

Apart from that, there is not much else i can do really.....

Have you had a problem with excess skin from your belly?

That is great work by Pixel. I need to start losing weight. I'm a similar height and weight to Pixel and I'm also a type 1 diabetic.

Type 1 is the one where insulin is taken and its permanent. Weight loss will make maintaining steady levels much, much easier but you can never get rid of it so no matter how much weight Pixel loses, Type 1 diabetes will still be there. Type 2 is the one where weight/diet can be a cause.

I would have thought that losing weight would help Pixel to have more stable levels and find them easier to maintain, as well as using less insulin to maintain those levels. Correct me if I'm wrong Pixel. :)

Well done 9st 4 pound is the loss I am at since November with another 10 pound till I hit my goal. I know what you mean by missing the diet as well it will be strange when I get to that point.

186lbs this morning, 13 stone 4lbs

Keep documented what I do each day, this is what I have done in June so far

7 days with no exercise, 4 of them were due to being hungover, hammered my bike pretty hard this month, need to pick up the running though

Current stats:
Height: 188cm
Weight: 109kg
BF: 15%
Waist: 35"/36"

So, a good few years ago I weighed in at over 22 stone then I realsied I needed to sort myself out and dropped to just over 15 stone. I have been going to the gym the last few years and have built up my muscle and lost body fat to the numbers I posted above.

I have very little body fat on most areas of my body (arms, legs, back), however I can't seem to shift it from my abdomen and it was suggested by a friend (who has had a tummy tuck within the last year) that it could be from excess skin is this likely?

Just had another weigh in and I'm now 11st 10lb which I'm happy with so far :D

About a month ago when I started I was 12st 5lb.

I've cut out eating crap foods e.g. sweets, chocolate, crisps etc

And I've being using the equipment I've got at home (Exercise bike and weights / bench) As I can't afford the gym but its helping me a lot

Whilst I was never "fat" - I was very bulky (Though looked good for it I thought :p).

However, I've been concentrating on increasing my lean muscle mass, whilst reducing body fat.

It's been hard work. Very hard work. A lot of sacrifices to be made in my food choices.

However, all my measurements have either increased (in terms of size) or stayed the same. i.e. my arms, neck, chest, legs have all either stayed the same size or increased slightly.

HOWEVER, my bodyfat measurements have ALL decreased significantly. And I've lost 2 inches around my waist as well (the only place I was interested in losing size in measurement!). In total, over the last 18 months, I've lost over 3.5% bodyfat.

Sure, it's not a lot, but I was never fat or overweight. However, the fact that I've stayed the same measurements whilst still losing bodyfat means I've necessarily gained LBM which is exactly what I was after. That's why it's taken so long. It was/is a slow process.

Just a shade under 15st now (first time I've been sub 15st for about 2-3 years), and still as strong as an ox, but leaner!

I'm now going to keep going to concentrate on adding a bit more muscle mass, but keep lean - oh and get stronger, but I have to accept that strength will be less achievable than when I was bigger.

I'm glad this thread has been bumped up :)

I'm still doing the gym 4 times a week for 2 hours each session, with just over 90 minutes cardio work out and 25 minutes of weight training. I weighed myself 2 nights ago and I'm down to 13st 4lb now :)

I'm feeling quite chuffed at the moment, but I've still got a way to go yet!
