Hey all,

About 9 months ago I fell awkwardly and my left hand broke my fall - I woke up the next day and found it slightly painful but I thought nothing of it.

About 6 weeks after the fall it was really hurting and affecting my life so I went to the hospital to ask them what was up - They said since I left it over a month, any damage would have healed and so an XRay was not going to happen - They instead left me with a Splint to use and a hope for the best...

I wore the splint as much as I could for a couple of months but it still hurt pretty bad at times...

Today - 6 months on  - I felt that enough was enough and that since recently it had become even worse, I was going to go to see the Doc.
Went to the Doc today who told me to get an Xray - which I did - and they found I had actually broken my wrist

SO - The purpose in this thread is to draw from others experiences - I've never broken any bones before luckily, so I am slightly clueless as what to expect.

The hospital gave me another splint to use for the time being, and next Friday I have to go to a specialist clinic. The woman at the hospital said the worst case scenario would be that they would have to do surgery on it

After speaking with a friend of mine - who is a med student - he said that the wrist may have healed itself incorrectly, and that they may have to break it again to fix it up

What can I expect to happen? I'm guessing they will cast my arm up? How long could I be expected to wear it? What should I expect in terms of my work (I work as an electrical engineer)?

TLDR: I broke my wrist - What can I expect to happen now? :p

PLEASE NOTE: Please do not give any medical advice - This is NOT a medical thread - I merely want your experiences :)

Thanks,

Marky

OCUK forumite breaks wrist....expect a few jokes made in here about what an OCUKer might get up to to break ones wrist. Anyhoo...

I broke mine playing football when I was 15 ish. Someone kicked a ball at it as hard as they could from point blank (defender cleared a shot into it). I played on and got home after coming runners up in tournament and my mum said to me "right down the hospital I don't like the look of that". It was broken. They wrapped me up in some fibre glass casting. People at school signed it. Girls felt sorry for me and pleasured me to take the pain away*. It then healed within 6 weeks and I got it taken off. It felt weak and thin but since I could shake hands with Mr Snake again properly I gradually rebuilt the strength. No seriously, it just gradually healed. Pretty simple really. Yours probably just hasn't had a chance to heal at all if it's been constantly moving. Don't worry yet. See how it goes.

When I was 13, I had Chondroblastoma in my femur. I used to have rediculously bad shooting pains to the point I'd break down and cry. I couldn't walk or bare any weight. I was told it was growing pains, siactica etc etc. Had an X-Ray like 6 months after the start of the pain and BOOM! 3mm of bone left around the outside of the ball on top of my femur. I was so lucky to no have my femur shatter into my pelvis.

Also, because of the bones weakening in my left leg, I broke my foot in 3 places.. guess how!? Running around a football field with football boots on.. Didn't land akwardly or anything. I had to hop all the way back to changing rooms and home. Teachers thought I was faking as it was my first PE lesson after been off for nearly an school year.

TL;DR - Bone disease, docs thought it was growing pains. Broken foot in 3 places due to weak bones.

All okay now though!

Scaphoid by any chance?
They wanted to chip a bit of my hip bone to fuse together my broken wrist!
Luckily it healed its self by the time it came to operation time.
