I've just gone on my PC today and found that barely any of my programs will start any more. Everything was working perfectly last night?

Safari loads when i click it as does sony vegas and cinema 4d, however iTunes doesn't, windows task manager doesn't, flight simulator X doesn't and a lot of others wont load either.

Does anyone know what has happened? I am so confused because some programs will load but others refuse to completely. If anyone has any help it would be very much appreciated.

What OS?

XP .exe fix

Vista .exe fix

Windows 7 .exe fix

All of the above are registry entries, you just double click and the .exe file extension registry entries are reset to default

These problems are usually the result of a nasty virus and or rootkit, so virus scanning after the fix is strongly advised - Malwarebyts and TDSSKiller from Kasperski are two I'd like to run myself

The OS is Windows 7 32 bit. Ill try that too.

I downloaded that, but my computer refuses to run the file to install it.

Check disk.

Right click on your C: drive > Properties > Tools tab and run it from there.

That doesn't work either, it just asks me to schedule a check next time my computer restarts. I have restarted it and nothing happened.

Adding information can unintentionally change or delete values and cause components to stop working correctly. If you do not trust the source of this information in C:\Users\RCS\Documents\Default_EXE.reg, do not add it to the registry.

Are you sure you want to continue?

[Yes] [No]

Did that appear?

No, not at all. Nothing appeared .

So you have the Default_EXE.reg file? And on double click nothing happens? Maybe try in safe mode.

Reboot, tap F8 repleatedly and select Safe Mode from the advanced boot menu

Now the computers stuck since trying to boot it into safe mode. It just has what looks like a load of lines of coding that ends with

Loaded: \windows\system32\DRIVERS\CLASSPNP.SYS

I've just restarted it again and it is not doing a disk check so i'll see how that goes.

If i have no luck with that, i will try this...

Thanks for your help everyone by the way!

and you can then try running command promt as administrator and typing sfc /scannow then hit enter.

The sfc /scannow command scans all system files and recover the corrupted ones.

That's a pretty awesome tool deanolfc. It automates a couple of other fixes in one package. Nice, adding to my collection, pending a dissection of the exe :D
