Annoying neighbours

I really feel for you. I moved in to a middle floor flat about 7 months ago and have had nothing but hell with the guy upstairs up until very recently when he was finally kicked out by his landlord. Playing his music and shouting (REALLY shouting) all through the night from 9 p.m. through till 6 a.m. the next day.

Phoning the local Police is (or was for me) a waste of time as they would just say there was nothing they could do and give me the out of hours number for the council. If you have somebody below you it might be worth talking to them as the people below me were being kept awake by the guy on the top floor as well and if a group of you make a complaint it might go quicker.

The guy upstairs had several letters from the council and the management company about the noise but it obviously didnt bother him. Several people in the block confronted him about it, but he just shouted obscenities and slamed his door.

I was lucky because my landlady played an absolute blinder for us. She was losing tenants every 6 months because nobody would put up with it so she went to the land registry and found out who owns the property and really pushed them to resolve it - I think by threatening legal action for loss of earnings or something.

I always find people who havent experianced it tend to think you are exagerating and it cant be as bad as you say it is but 2 days with little and broken sleep sends you mad, let alone 3 or 4 days of every week. By the end of it me and my girlfriend were basically going away every weekend to 'see family'.

Good luck sorting it out.

Grow a spine you worm. Go round and talk to her. If she doesn't tone it down then either go the legal route or be more forceful with her. If you can't help youself in a matter such as this then just wow... The choice is yours, doing nothing is only going to result in you getting more and more upset and angry.

Can't stand people like that - I always assume they are lacking a bit in the mental dept. I always turn my music down by 10pm and off/use headphones before 11.

Never easy to confront people about it either, 9/10 you get abuse or they turn it down for a couple of days then it goes back to normal.

Try living above a family with screaming kids who cry at least every 30 minutes during the day, usually a few times during the night as well, and enjoy waking up at 6:30am with a right good crying session to start the day.

I got home from work at 5:15pm. One of the kids was crying as soon as I walked in the door, and has done so a further 2 times since, for about 10 minutes at a time.

Thankfully I only have a couple of months more to suffer of it before I move into my new home.

I do, well next door to them, every morning 6am~ the kid wakes up screaming mummy, mummy, mummy, mummy, mummy, mummy, mummy, mummy, mummy, mummy, mummy, mummy, mummy, mummy, mummy, mummy, mummy, mummy, mummy, mummy, mummy, mummy, mummy, mummy, mummy, mummy, mummy, mummy, mummy, mummy, mummy, mummy, mummy, mummy, mummy, mummy, mummy, mummy, mummy, mummy, mummy, mummy, mummy, mummy, mummy, mummy, mummy, mummy, mummy, mummy, mummy, mummy, mummy, mummy, mummy, mummy, mummy, mummy, mummy, mummy, mummy, mummy, mummy, mummy, mummy, mummy, mummy, mummy, mummy, mummy.

Then instead of walking downstairs it bounces down every step making a loud bang noise, and at multiple times the day throws tantrums stomping around then late at night throws more tantrums banging and crashing about. Normally i dont mind but i work shifts and when im on nights its REALLY irritating when im trying to sleep.

Again do you own the house? If so spend some money on sound proofing.
So many people own Homes and complain. Yet never even think about sound proofing. Or say why should I. Well it's your sanity and peacefulness that is being harmed. It's one of the first things I would do when redecorating if I owned my own place. Lots of varies DIY solutions.

Theres even been one or two threads of people doing it on this forum. One insulating ceiling as they where in a bottom flat.

I've had noisy neighbours in the past and also busy roads outside bedroom windows with lots of traffic and pedestrians, etc. A simple solution is to use air conditioning or a fan when you sleep, it can make an amazing difference without having to install soundproofing.

White noise is an extremely effective sleep aid and eliminates any harsh noises, but still allows you to hear a wake-up alarm. I'm still in a noisy area, so most Spring, Summer and Autumn nights the fan will be on low, Winters are usually quieter anyway so thankfully not needed then.

If she's singling this song at 6am I imagine you've been woken by it a few times - which I imagine is especially annoying

Well worth trying a fan for a temporary fix.
