Is there an option to change it back? I hate it when companies change the look of things and don't even give the option to change back. Xbox Live has done it about 3 times, surely its not that hard to give the option to use past skins . . .

Depends what technology you consider modern.
CRT = less power
Plasma = less power (not that you are likely to be using Google often on a plasma)
LCD = no difference
OLED = less power.
