Not to much of a point to this thread other than to say I passed my first Microsoft exam yesterday!

The exam was the 70-433, which has given me a certification of Microsoft Certified Technology Specialist in SQL Server 2008 Database Development!

I've been meaning to take one of these exams for a very long time now, and have finally done it. I got 92% on the actual exam, which I was very pleased with!

I hope to take the next one (70-451) within the next month or so, which will give me another certification of Microsoft Certified IT Professional: Database Development 2008.

Anyone else passed any of these exams, or looking to do any in the future?

Thanks, I've used the Visual Cert stuff in the past, and probably will again.

Congrats on your exams..

Exams are something like £80 or so form memory? Not cheap if they're coming out of your own pocket but not wallet busting.

Congrats :)

SQL and database development is something I'd love to get into. After doing something like would it give you enough skills that you could get a junior developing role? Or is it like much of IT, mainly dependant on experience?

Cheers

I'd say that if you managed to pass one of these exams, you'd be more than competent enough to get a job as some kind of junior DBA or something.

They're not easy, and having some decent experience will help you pass the exam...

Experience certainly helps, I imagine I've learned a lot more than I realise just from my day to day job.

Nice one, now crack on and get your MCSE :D

Thanks :D I think they've retired the MCSE now, haven't they? It's all a little more specialized..

Cheers, when I've got a bit more SQL experience I may give them a go. Unfortunately I'm in an IT job where there is no opportunity for me to go into this area, so I either have to stick to what I'm doing or start over :( currently I'm just learning in my spare time.

You can still do the MCSE, I've just upgraded my MCSA to 2008, although if I was to start from scratch now I'd just do the 2008.

Grats dude, as you know I passed my 662 Configuring Exchange 2010 exam which means I just need to pass 663 to get my MCITP: Enterprise Messaging Administrator on Exchange 2010 now!

It definitely helps when you work with the technologies day to day, makes the exams easier/make more sense tbh, and you are less likely to forget things if you work with them all the time too.

Congrats :)

If you're logically minded, you could get a junior developer job after bashing around with PHP/MySQL for a couple weekends, by yourself, with the aid of web tutorials, completely free. Obviously this doesn't get you into MS positions, but there's huge possibilities on both sides.
