Anyone else fairly dissapointed?

Anyone else fairly dissapointed with our CPU manufacturers? or is it just me? I amf airly new to this sort of stuff so i cant go back in the years and see if it were all the same back then but, are CPU's (amongst other hardware i presume) allways getting delayed?
Kinda annoying to be honest, unless it is a marketing scheme...

To be honest CPUs aren't really the limiting factor for much nowadays so it doesn't bother me at all. As manufacturer processes get smaller, speeds increase and transistor counts shoot up CPUs are getting progressively more complicated so it's no massive surprise it takes longer for each generation.

I'd imagine theres a lot going on that we dont know about, they probably get some intel on the competitors new hardware and try to beef up their own to match it, which obviously takes time. In the end, we all get given top end chips eventually so i'm happy to make do for a while, we're hardly struggling for performance at the moment

I suppose so, I think it is just my generation (or me) that expects manufacturers to stay to their deadlines, accepting 1 or 2 delays, (bulldozer, not looking at you)

Perhaps you should also look at Intel then??

Both Ivy Bridge and Sandy Bridge E are delayed until 2012.

its not just cpu's loads of things get delayed, its just the whole BullDozer thing has brought the cpu delay to the forefront. i remember Nvidia delayed their cards not long back and then amd/ati were gods for releasing theirs before nvidia. oh how things change so quickly.

I literally created the thread because of that haha, just made me laugh, AMD have had delays, now intel, you would have thought they would have tried to get their product out on time to give them one up on AMD (in terms of release of their new cpu)

but their launch date was probably released with BD already being expected on the market. now they know BD isnt going to be out for a month or so, why not use the extra time to make a few tweaks, build up some hype and see what the competition is like.
better than getting a half-arsed chip because they rushed it to get something new out.

Didnt they do that with the first i7's?
I understand that point, but still, i think they should account for it more, im not sure if intel are big on there dates but they could give a few months extra on the planned release date and just give that out instead, for safetly...

well like i said earlier, nvidia did it with their fermi cards (i believe that was a heat issue) and they didnt loose any major sales over it in the long term. but people seem to have short memories.
the SB range hasnt been out all that long, so maybe intel have seen the amds delay in BD has pushed their SB sales, so they will get as much as they can from that before releasing their new range.

Lucky for them SB is basking in all the glory, imagine if BD ives up to expectation and was released the same time as SB? what would happen then eh? Something to think about on the can...

if BD came out and blitzed SB then SB-E would be released on time. intel have not got any reason to rush now as amd have delayed.
i think intel are being quite smart waiting for something official to come out of amds camp before pushing hard the SB-E. it means they can adapt their marketing accordingly and do like for like comparrisions with the BD chip.

Ah, the innocence and impatience of youth!

Most projects never run to time. Intel are better than most but have had the odd ****-up. Unlike the 90s we're not really clamouring for more power all the time. Back in the Windows 3.1/95 days most machines were never fast enough, now there's loads of CPU grunt to spare for most tasks.

Haha true, my business studies assignment was to create my own business, but i never had to do anything like that.

Haha I see your point, but still, it would be nice, I suppose it is the smart thing to do, wait for your opponents move then go one up.

yea the good old days when we used ceramic cpu's and if you werent careful when installing the heatsink they would crack like a bathroom tile
