My Grandad has bought a new computer, but it does not have any OS on it.

Could I take the HDD from his old one and put it in the new one?

The oem version is tied to the motherboard it was originally installed / activated on.

You can phone up and fib but legally he would be unlicensed and you might as well downlod a hacked copy of win 7.

Oh ok. If I got an XP disc, could I use the license key? Or is that what you're talking about?

And to reaper... It's a long story ;)

That's what were talking about :), so ideally no.

Why did the pc come with no operating system.

Well it did come with Windows 7, but he bought it off eBay and it was an illegal copy and it would not let him install any MS programs.

Ah ok, his best bet is to purchase a copy of windows 7 from here which he can pass on with his pc if he chooses to sell.
