Is it rude NOT to place a conveyor belt divider after your shopping?

I always put one down, if I end up at a till and the person in front can't be bothered, I just pile my shopping on the belt next to theirs, they soon get the message when they think they'll end up paying for some of mine.

I personally would consider it slightly rude not to yes. Reason being, the person after you can't put down their shopping until the divider has been placed and it's usually difficult to reach unless you're stood right next to the conveyor, which is where the next person to pay will be.

Basically it's a tiny bit of effort for you to save a greater degree of effort for someone else.
Why can't you put your shopping down until a divider has been placed?

Why wouldn't you place one after your shopping? The following person might be old or have a physical impairment that means stretching for one is a slight inconvenience, plus you're probably right next to the till where they keep them anyway.

If you were in front of me and didn't do it - I'd think you were a selfish and/or lazy.

You could, but then you're shopping might get mixed with the other guy's. Isn't that the whole purpose of a divider?

I have never really thought about it tbh, I cannot even recall if I do it or not. There seems to be far more significant issues with rudeness in many supermarkets and society in general than whether a divider is put on the conveyor for you or not.

I find it a bit rude, kinda looks like you're not worth their time.

But i do yes.

What do you think of it, when they see you put a divider don't but don't have the courtesy to say thanks?

That might have something to do with the fact that the majority of people aren't worth my time?
