in all seriousness, i'm not sure what to do. as the weather is nice, i've decided to tackle a job in the garden that i've been putting off for months. halfway through said job of clearing a load of old cuttings away, i spot this little fella

now, i assume he is asleep or hiding from the disturbance. i believe that hedgehog numbers have dropped and i don't want to give the little bleeder a heart attack (my first thought was to shovel him up and drop him over next doors fence but then i re-considered) but i have now hit a stumbling block on getting the job completed. what's the right thing to do?

1 - Are you sure it's alive?

2 - Can you leave that bit, or better yet gently cover it with some cuttings making a nice nest thing.

3 - Get (make) a hedgehog hibernation box and very gently put him in it, and move it somewhere?

4 - Eat it?

Erm... It's the middle of summer (well start), if it's hibernating now there is something definitely wrong with it!

Just put some gardening gloves on (to protect you from the spikes), pick it up and move it somewhere else. It'll be fine.

It could be dead and you are unawares of the maggots that are eating it away from the inside.

You pick it up and all the maggots start pouring out, you see and smell the rotting flesh before you

You have nightmares about this horrible ordeal.

You kill your family and then yourself over the painful sights you have seen

I would watch the hell out of this movie, it sounds rad.

It was probably asleep at first, but now it's curled up to protect itself.
Feel free to pick it up. I would wear gloves though becuase it will have tics/lice etc between the spines.

I would personally put it in a cardboard box with a door cut into the side, it will leave when it feels everyone has gone (probably at night).
You can put the box anywhere that's reasonably safe, among some bushes preferably.

A bit of catfood and/or some water if you feel like feeding it.

Pick it up and move it somewhere out of the way.

My facebook pic is of me holding a hedgehog that I found in the garden a while back. My little girl thought it was great.
