Funny static

I think it is the cable, as you said, your audio plugs are right next to the rad, which has liquid pumped through it, that pump will speed up with certain games that are more CPU intensive than others. Are you using "HD" audio or "ac97"?

Well, I know that some GPUs suffer from coil whine which goes away when Vsync is forced ON, Just wonder if its some how sticking a gremlin in the works.

You can but try.

stulid magically strikes again, its reduced the volume of the static in games but hasn't eliminated it (naturally, as websites don't use VSync no improvement there), so i think we can agree the interference is GPU related.
Returning to the idea of moving the card, would it be feasible to run the the graphics card in a x16@x4 slot or would that throttle performance too much?

I would have thought that it would be better with the HD audio plugged in.

I would try the Vsync that Stulid said to try and have a look for HDMI audio settings in the ATI driver control panel (I have nvidia so cant really help with that bit).

doesn't appear to be much in the CCC for controlling sound over HDMI, i will have a peak in the bios and see if i can disable sound to PCIe sockets from there after i've disconnected front audio (not likely to use it anyway).
I'll do that now, big file finsihed copying just now
@stulid, yes (don't judge me! :D)
just migrated to my laptop, so if anyone wants to suggest anything else before i start it up again, now would be nice

If you cant find it in the ATI driver control panel, you can always right click on the speaker symbol (bottom right of screen) and select "playback devices", any that say HDMI, disable them.

oh gawd, hope it wouldn't come to this, but it looks like it has, yes i can, but it wouldn't be a permanent resolution as the fastest the second socket can run is x4.
Also, by moving sockets would that confuse the drivers for a bit or anything like that? just so i'm aware.
PC is off now, so before we go for this any other ideas quickly?

i'll go ahead and do it, gimmie a few minutes and i'll get back to you.
Also, sudden remember, it didn't do this INITIALLY, only after the first few hours.
Don't know if that's enlightening or confusing but i'll let that sit with you

slight problem, can't install device drivers cos i had to unplug the SATA cable for my DVD drive in order for the graphics card to fit, can SATA-II devices run in SATA-III sockets
