Milly Dowler's voicemail was hacked by News of the Screws

As I said, I voted for the local conservative candidate, not for the Conservative Party. Perhaps you need to learn the difference?

Did you consider the Labour candidate? ;)

Look, it's not about pigeon holing you as I think you feel. As a layman term, I wouldn't be kicking up quite the same fuss. Your arguments have notoriety particularly on economics, and the type of economics you profess is broadly similar to the Tories.

I can see how people make the "mistake".

Very sad and disgraceful behaviour :(

I wonder is it News of the World who is responsible (as a corporate body)

OR

is it the Editor at the time Rebekah Brooks and the investigator Glenn Mulcaire (single individuals)

Slap on the wrist fine for the former and suspended jail sentence for the former probably?

The same Tories who are maintaining a 50% tax rate, increased VAT and putting Gordon Brown to shame with regards to state spending?

And I see nothing but a gobsmacked public going 'WHAT THE **** ARE YOU DOING' and having the biggest strike since the second world war.

The proportion of people striking it much smaller than the electorate... And even ignoring the coalition partners, the Conservatives got a higher proportion of the vote than Labour did in 2005, and haven't lost much support since ;)

There's only so long the Tories and their followers can keep trumpeting 'the last guy in office did it' as they enact their rubbish policies that will exacerbate the existing issues bought about by global systems and not just Labour.

There are many on the left who still blame Thatcher for the state of the country, I think the coalition has a few more years grace yet to sort out the mess left by labour. The global issues were the catalyst, but Labour consistently running a deficit through the boom period, stoking house price inflation and massively expanding the public sector with unproductive non-jobs is the reason why it hurt so much.

Oh I'm sorry I thought you voted Tory

I vote based on the local candidates, not the party they belong to. Indeed, I even wrote to all the major candidates asking for their views on issues. The Lib Dem one didn't reply at all, The Labour candidate (who is currently the MP) was insane (including the wonderful line of 'Yes, the opinion of Ministers is more important than evidence'), and the Conservative one (who sits on the centre of the Conservative party as far as policies and beliefs go, and could indeed fit into the Liberal side of the Lib Dems quite well) was balanced, thoughtful and so on, and hence got my vote.

Just because you make snap judgements based on party membership doesn't mean the rest of use do.

Quite.

But that is by the by, they are the party of the small state and business interest primarily. You will find lots of mini Dolph's rolling about and I am sure they aren't happy with the current fiscal position either.

Doesn't change what they are underneath however.

Yes, I did. I still have the letter that she wrote in response to my queries that convinced me there was no way in hell she would ever get my vote.

My economic arguments are also very similar to the Orange Book Liberals, UKIP, and my social arguments usually put me in with the Greens... The problem is, most political parties are coalitions of people with enough similar ideas to not be at each other's throats all the time, you still have to evaluate your local candidates because parties run a spread.

You considered someone who you consider insane?

I think there is something inherently wrong here, don't you? ;)

We can all pick a leaf out of the main parties, it is where you sit by in large most of the time and what takes the interest. When it comes to the poor, industries and civil servants et al etc you are an 'off the shelf' Tory.

Yeah anyway, the Dowler family, I wonder how they are feeling after this revelation.

Probably pretty terrible, I know I would be. I hope they get to the bottom of it, and hope the Guardian hasn't screwed up the potential for prosecution by publishing the full details before handing it over to the police...

(waits for this post around the actual topic to be ignored like my last)

Hmmm this is not a political thread, it's about a poor girl who was murdered, and the News of the world actions.

The worst thing here is that Dolph is just afraid to admit that he's a die-hard Tory, maybe it's just a glimmer of conscience shining through?

it's pretty shameful, i just don't know how some of these people sleep at night, it's beyond me.

nothing significant will come of it though. As people have said, there's too many fingers in too many pies for that

B@

I think you may find this is the straw that breaks the camel's back.

So far the victims have been celebrities and MP's.

Now we have people intercepting the voice mails of a murder young girl.

I would disagree. Dolph's political outlook is like the US Tea Party.

I didn't consider her insane until I had her letter back.

Largely, I don't actually agree with the Tories on the Poor, unless you count IDS, but IDS (and Cameron to a large extent) are not 'typical' tories.
