I would tend to second looking away from the main tourist areas. The subway is pretty good and you can still be within easy reach of most things tourists do.

Upper East Side is fine as is Queens (have stayed at both).

NYC.com has a listing with map to give a good indication of price and location if you have not already looked there.

Far better to discover ways of increased cellular regeneration and increased resistance to disease and injury. That would imply significantly increased lifespans as well as decreased infirmity.

Naked mole rats also have massive resistance, apparently immunity, to all forms of cancer and a reduction in aging due to higher levels of telomerase. It would be useful.
 
Mine is to go into space, always been into that sort of thing since I was a kid and now looks like it will be increasingly achieveable.

I should say marry the girlfriend, however, I have to agree with you, been fascinated with the space shuttle program and would love to go and see atlantis launch on Friday! (eventually going into space would be a bonus)
