BT Infinity & FTTx Discussion

Do you know how much it is for talk talk. It just says £10 on top of your package but there are various packages ?

From what I can see if you went with the plus package you get it for £17.25 for 6 months then £24.50 which is cheaper than BT Infinity ?

Anyone had any problems with the BT modem they give you with infinity? Im not talking about the router, but the actual modem.

On Friday my net went down completely and stayed down with flashing DSL light all weekend. The BT guy came today and he checked everything and said everything is fine, so he decided to swap the modem for another one. And now the net is working perfectly again.

He said these modems are causing massive problems just now and they are failing left right and center. He thinks there is a component inside them which is overheating and making them fail.

Apparently according to this guy BT are working on making a new modem to fix these problems.

Dont know how true any of that is, might just be bad luck that my modem failed all of a sudden...

Anyway here are my speeds after a few hours of the modem being on (they turned on interleaving etc when my modem was not working to try compensate)

The modem openreach supply is a complete piece of **** and they do fail all the time, they are more reliable by wall mounting though.

You should wall mount it and have the vents facing upwards, mine doesn't even get warm.

Hello, first chip in post ;)

I had my modem replaced a week ago last Friday, after exhibiting all the same symptoms as above.
The only slight problem was that after the modem was replaced, interleaving was applied, (could have been when it was inop) to the deepest level, and now they can't get it off.
How funny is that, now I'm stuck with a profile of 21000 down and 600 up plus 40ms added to any ping.
BT are on with it so they say, but just be warned it's great at full speed, not so clever if you get stuck on the throttled profile.

tbh my modem is wall mounted and well ventilated, it doesn't get warm, also my line is 300 meters so I should be ok with the DLM and ip profile.

Wall mounted modem here too, been there since day one, and its not missed a beat. Never gets remotely hot either.

Its actually been up since when ever it was i last unplugged it to have a clean up! :D

FWIW, i'm 155m from the cab.

Aye Locky
I can see the exchange from my house, that's not the problem, the problem occurs after a fault for whatever reason.
They haven't got a robust procedure in place for resetting your ip profile, some have no probs, some have a lot of probs, I am having a lot of probs.

It's not mega bad to be fair, just could do with it being what it was :)

Mine is still going after over a week now, since my dodgy modem was replaced.

No speed drops and no disconnections, on 24/7!

Im just wonder if you for example go on holiday for 2-3 weeks, would you leave your broadband on?

The package we will be on works out at £37 per month. This includes line rental, unlimited internet, free phone calls at anytime and a few other extras.

After some research I believe the router they supply is the Huawei HG532. Does anyone have any experience with this router?

Anyway, it's been ordered and will be installed mid July. I will be sure to post a before and after speed test. :)

Well looks like were on track for our Sept Live date BT Openreach have been busy with trunking and more sorting of the network AND theres been a bunch of Sparky's and others digging trenches and laying Power cables in trunking to the new FTTC cab's all over the local area. CAN'T WAIT LOL Like a big kid at xmas LOL

Just to save you some pain, and to apologise, its a BT Business product and according to the email I got its called "Total Broadband Advance Support"

So been up for a while with this product, just a reminder the BT tester told me and everyone at BT that I would only get 11Mb downstream and 4.7Mb upstream so I couldn't get Infinity, but managed to get this new product "Total Broadband Advance Support" which is Infinity without the guaranteed minimum speed of 15Mb.

Its sold as a 15Mb down and 2Mb up

So what do I get?

Down is 27Mb.. :D Getting around 22Mb/s on speedtest.net

Up is 1.6Mb but I can live with that. I've tried asking them to regrade my profile to the 10Mb upstream one but they won't do it because to do that would mean putting me on Infinity and I can't be put on infinity because their tester shows i can't get more than 11Mb/s down

So I can get 27Mb/s but because "tester says no" they can't override it... crazy.. even though I am willing to pay the extra to get my 4.7Mb/s out of 10Mb/s

Btw.. engineers said I am 1km from the FTTC.
