Kung-fu movies

IP man 2 was pretty good, Twister was a bit of an annoying character but it was an ok sequel. Forbidden Kingdom was a bit cheesy but I liked it for what it was.

Drunken Monkey is a good one for fans of the old Shaw Bros classics, from same director as 36th chamber of Shaolin and guest starring Gordon Liu, so sort of a re-visit to the classic kung-fu era for the modern day. Also would recommend king boxer and spiritual boxer.

I've been looking to pick up a copy of Iron Monkey, but it's still not released on blu-ray over here and doesn't look like it's even in print for DVD at the moment.

IP man and Ong Bak for me. Both Donnie Yen and Tony Jaa are two of the best in the modern martial art business.

Watched a few more since my last post above.

I would recommend Police Story (watched I and II so far. Great!).

Watched SPL. Did not rate it as highly as the other Yen/Wilson Yip movies, but was great to see Sammo in there!

Also saw Merantau. If you ignore the cheese on the story, I found it to be a very compelling, different Martial Arts movie experience, given its focus on Indonesia and Silat. Very unique and worth a watch imo. Not as heartstopping a debut as Tony Jaa's, but very competent. And the villains had me constantly laughing my ass off.

EDIT:
Forgot to mention, speaking of Tony Jaa, watched Chocolate, directed by the same guy as for Ong Bak, with a female lead. Veeeerrry good!

Nice one :) Shame I dont live near there.

Im still on my mission to complete my HK Legends set. Kind of given up but I have all the decent ones. Some of them go for stupid money now but Im sure they will be re-released one day.

Movies24 channel is showing some old Jackie Chan stuff tonight.
About to watch Drunken Master on the +1 channel :)

Too many good Jackie Chan films to be honest, years ago I joined Lovefilm(I think it was before it was lovefilm, forget what it was called) and got loads of JC films.

Anyone interested in the films really really should read Jackie's biography(theres probably more than one by now, errm, the good one :p ), its like a film itself, its great to hear/realise exactly how he grew up and trained to be who he is and who he grew up with.

I loved Meals on wheels, Drunkenmaster's are good and I always really liked Police Story, I swear theres a remake or something but I've somehow never seen it.

Anyone remember which one he has the awesome fight on the roof, awesome fight, think that is "Who Am I?". Another one I can't remember the name of he's a millionaire who finds a daft hot girl to help, its got the awesome little martial arts guy in it he fights a couple times.

yes its a shame you cant make it,next month and beyond we got coming
sun dragon, crazy horse intelligent monkey, eagles claw, shaolin invincible sticks, crystal fist, shaolin red master, the victim, born invincible, the eagles killer, golden mask and many more. And the hk legends back catalogue has been picked up by showbox mediagroup and set for re release again.

As a reference me personally i dont class anything like police story etc as a kung fu movie there action movies they have cars and stuff flying around, the only ones that are kung fu movies are ones where there actually wearing the traditional clothes ie like the shaw brothers movies etc there kung fu movies :)

Jet Li's first films, old Jackie Chan films, all of Bruce Lee's films, Tony Jaa has some good films like Ong Back and Warrior King. 13 Assassins, Seven Samurai, Curse of the Golden Flower, Kung Fu Hustle, Kickboxer and Bloodsport are fun I think!
