Best Tablet?

No wonder Apple users have to have their own forum because as soon as you mention something about them you get 'lulz Apple fanboy' comments from the adolescents :o

You clearly don't know what you are talking about if you're comparing apps on your 3GS to tablet apps for the iPad which are totally different things.

And FYI, I use the Galaxy S II and HTC Sensation as my main phones, not an iPhone, though I do have a couple of iPhone 4's :)

Just for my use the iPad 2 is the best tablet as I mainly web browse (don't care about Flash) and want the higher quality app store.

Could you please enlighten me further in the above regarding the difference in tablet apps compared to iphone apps as I have quite a few Android apps on my Transformer that are on my Iphone 3GS and they perform exactly the same?

For example, Co Pilot Live UK, Tune In Radio, Ebay, Angry Birds, Skype all work proficiently on either device so how is the 3GS irrelevant??
 
Yes, phone apps work on the tablets but they aren't designed for them so generally don't work as well (or look as good), as they aren't designed to make the most of the extra screen size, etc.

Sorry, I beg to differ again Robbo.

Those apps I mentioned in my earlier post work identically on both the iphone & the Transformer without performance loss on either device.

I dont purchase an app because of how it looks but for what it does and how it performs.

There is quite a big difference between tablet apps and phone apps. If you don't think so then fine, keep using phone apps on your tablet :confused:

I appreciate as you don't have an iPad you might not really know what I'm talking about, such is the poor tablet app selection on Android at the moment.

Yes originality, for instance I use and app called unlock with wifi, it does what it says on the tin, when connected to a known wifi source it disables your phones lockscreen and security. The kind of thing you will never see on an iPhone, at least not without voiding your warranty and having trained fruit eating ninjas beat down your door.

Robbo is correct, and i for one have used a Transformer, as i think Robbo might of as well :).

Android lack a dedicated section in the market for tablet orientated/optimized apps, yes phone apps will work, but not to the full potential on a Tegra2 device with a 10.1" screen, like the Transformer. Maybe the Android market has a lot of original apps, but its meerly because its open sourced, more random developers etc.

There are many apps which are designed for portrait phones, like 4 inch android devices, so when you download/install on the Transformer, they become distorted and generally look pants :D.

But for something like the Transformer, if you dont want to tether, wait for the 3G version, of the Slide Version of the Transformer or even the Quad Core version :).

If you want to use an iPad, there is a keyboard dock which is well suited and designed for it, and can be found by browsing through the Apple Hardware section. :)



Oh and Robbo, why do you have a "couple" of iPhone 4's, care to share :D?

I got the Transformer for web browsing at home as i felt the keyboard dock integrated well, but with Honeycomb being early in release, and the fact Tablet Apps are only just getting pushed into mainstream sections of the market, you find yourself looking for apps which have yet to be created or optimized for a tablet.

So could it be said it is a bit unfair to compare "Ipad vs Transformer" as the Ipad has had far longer under its belt with Tablet Apps than the recently released Android Tablets?

You could certainly say that, but the fact it has been out longer only counts as an advantage to the iPad and a disadvantage to the Transformer.

And it would seem fair to compare them, if the OP is trying to find something comparisons of tablets and choices would be needed to fully justify his decision :)

It seems feasible to me. I just think instead of investing in something which is yet to develop up and beyond its current potential, an investment in something which ultimately has everything he needs (minus a dedicated keyboard/dock).

Apps are not the be all and end all of the tablet.

Which takes me back to my earlier post that the Transformer has better cameras, storage expansion capabilities, bigger display with more pixels per inch, plus another post states cursor support, extra battery life and better push mail support in its favour.

For the extra battery life though it has to be attached to the dock.

Apps aren't the be all and end all but for my use for example, they really are as the web browsing is equal and will be even better on iOS 5. :)

I don't care about the cameras (they are all pretty rubbish), and I very much like the email client.

It depends what you need, but there is no tablet that should be really replacing a laptop if you need in-depth features, that isn't what they are for.
 
If he wants a laptop, get a Zacate netbook or something for sub £350 :)

Like Robbo said, you cant really replace a laptop with a tablet with/without a dock as theres all the other things you require.

But i must agree with push mail, the standard gmail app for the transformer/honeycomb 3.1 is smart :)
 
I love how people complain about the availability of apps when in reality all you use a tablet for is web browsing and email.

My needs were "Flash" so websites can display properly.

The Transformer outputs HDMI, mini USB whereas with iPad2 you will have to fork out more money to have any capability of doing those things the Transformer does out of the box.

Extra storage facilities, 1GB Ram standard in the Transformer, not 512MB as in the Ipad 2.

Plus others details mentioned in my earlier posts made me buy the Transformer instead.
