I hate PH that aint a very friendly forum.

It's too big to generalise but yes, on the whole its members are the bottom of the barrel Daily Mail reading retards, but if you get in with the local crew there are some decent people on there and it can be second to none for relevant advice when it comes to cars, just stay well clear of it for any other reason.

The throttle body itself is 446+vat total bill 715 including VAT, **** it i dont know but that dont seem too expensive for the actual work to me.

Well throttle bodies are normally easily accessible, but I suppose at the same time its a Maser and as such could be an utter bitch of a job. But most cars its a sub 1hr job, so maybe on an ass of a car its 2hr, but looking at that they are charging you for 3hr more or less, so either a big job, or a big conn.

Needs a throttle body apparently, 715 quid including VAT fitted in cold blood because of that silly **** and his pressure washer. ...
Unbelievable!

I would love to know how they could do that sort of damage to any part of the engine with a pressure washer; you have every right to be VERY angry with them. If the dealership has any self-respect, they really should fix the problem free of charge and offer you an apology for wasting your time.

You'd be laughed out of the workshop unless he bought the car from them and it is within a year. Why should they do that for him?

Its a kid who does cleaning thats pressure washed it, not the place thats repairing it.

A friend of mine had a 3200 for a while and that too needed a throttle body. I seem to remember there being someone who can refurbish the faulty item, if you're getting the dealers to fit a new one you may be able to grab a few quid back by flogging him them faulty one?

See its all well and good but im between a rock and a hard place here.

The only Maserati places i know are the one its at now, that place on the south coast which is just miles away and then main dealers.

Is that the one in Lyndhurst?

If so I remember that place when I went on a camping trip, all I can say is that area is quite nice

sorry to hear about the problem with the motor.
I asked the place I went to for paint correction to do my engine bay last week and they refused outright, saying its not worth the risk to do anything other than clean it with a cloth. The dealer (JLR) advises against it also.
I guess I have been lucky so far then and ill keep the pressure washer away in future.

Hope it gets resolved as painlessly as possible!

My e39 is very clean, inside & out with the exception of the engine bay - which looks dreadful after 14 years & 260k+ miles.

It remains filthy for a very good reason....

Unlucky DM. :(

Ahh, that's different. A garage that specialises in servicing high value cars just handed over the keys to your car to a "kid" armed with a pressure washer; that's OK then ;)

As you say, you are between a rock and a hard place :(

RE: Exhausts.

I had a 4200 with a larini exhaust system and it sounded like nothing else on planet earth. Maybe a slight bit of exaggeration there, but it was amazing.

I used to get emails from people in my office saying the entire office building felt like it was vibrating when i parked the car down the side alley next to it. A slight blip on the throttle after starting it up, and it sounded like an F1 car. Leaving for work at 6.40am was a bit embarrasing as well.

The stock 4200 sounds nice, but a larini/tubi takes it to a whole new level. I'd get loads of people asking me to rev the car at any opportunity. ;)

Did it drone when you were just cruising with the new exhaust?

At idle, it definately had a low 'boom' that set it aside from other stock masers.

But at cruising speed it was definately tuned so that there was a flat spot in the noise coming out, so you didnt have it wailing when you didnt want it to.

Did you go ahead and pay for the throttle body replacement or manage to fix it another way?
