Ok who sneeks in snacks to the pictures

I don't have a citation I can link you to. I was given the details by some guy in a pub.

Ok, it's not as silly as that. The 'guy in a pub' was a friend who worked in a team in Bank of Scotland that financed and managed a deal involving Vue Cinema some years back.

That said, I had a quick Google and if the UK cinema industry is anything like that in America, then I don't think his version of things is far wrong: http://themovieblog.com/2007/10/eco...re-the-money-goes-and-why-it-costs-us-so-much or http://www.quora.com/How-do-movie-theatres-make-money

Funny how as soon as vue took over the cinema's, the prices immediately went up, and the level's of service down. So I don't see how it is they only 'break even' on the ticket price. I normally buy food, (like a hotdog) but wish I didn't lol. Stupid prices.

We rarely go to the cinema now as the prices are so high just for the tickets (imo).

I don't take stuff along to the cinema. Normally either buy there, or have a meal before/afterwards.

YO DAWG! YOU KNOW THAT HILARY CLINTON? WELL, I SNUCK A SNUKE IN HER SNATCH! FO SHO!

(please get that reference :))

FFFUUUUU, just got the top ten US box office from IMDB,

157
106
92
98
112
109
114
94
94
125

All in minutes, obviously.

What's with the attitude? :p

(No really, I can't work out what the issue is):o

EDIT: Ah! Wait, was the annoyance because I beat you to the list? If so I just got em from flixter on my phone, took about 10 seconds to do... :p

TBH I think (as a gross generalisation)

Kids films: 75-90 minutes
Animated for all ages: 85-100 minutes
Comedy/Romance: 90-120 minutes
Action: 120-180 minutes

Sound about right? Generally I'm in the action with a little bit of comedy and animation thrown in, so gives me an average watch time of around two and quarter is hours. I rarely see films that are less than 2 hours long.

Pfft, i normally get a maccy d's before i go in...

Only get sweets if i have some spare pocket change :p but then again i eat them before the film starts...

Bloody 30 minutes of adverts and trailers..

It's what the gf's handbag is for.

2 drinks, 2 bags of homemade butterkist popcorn, and two pick n mix's.

Less than a tenner.

I've seen people do it in the Showcase Cinema Deluxe Directors Hall screen too.

Check my latest edit! :p

Nah I wasn't having a go, I realised you weren't serious, just couldn't work out why you put it. Then I realised. :D

There we go:

You're allowed to take in your own drinks/sweets up here. They only ask that you don't bring hot food (i.e. McDonalds). I tend to plonk my sweets on the counter when buying my ticket. no-ones ever said anything to me about it. I thinks its one of those myths that work in the cinemas favor.

Round here, £7.60 for teen 2D, £12.60 for 3D. It's a ****take.

Oh, and as regards to sneaking stuff in, who doesn't ;) I've gone in with ridiculous amounts of stuff tucked into my clothing lol, they never care all that much.

If I want a pick-a-mix (yes I know, it's childish :P), I just go to Tescos buy it there, and walk in, they don't really say anything. The prices at the cinema are extortionate though.

I worked in a cinema last year the profits made on popcorn are insane, one of those large sacks of popcorn cost the company around 50p, the popcorn boxes actually cost more than the food itself, and they'll be able to serve up about 20 or so large popcorns per bag. so lets say a large popcorn = £5 x 20 = £100 :P

I'm not blatantly obvious but I won't hide it either. There's nothing on the ticket which says I can't eat my own food/drink. No-one has ever said anything and if they did I'd politely but firmly ask them to point out where it says I'm not allowed to.

Yeah I hate the cinema now. I'll only go on Orange Wednesdays which are packed with people doing the same thing including chavs. It's an absolute rip. The picture quality really isn't all that tbh, and the food is just commedy prices. I got a water once and it was £2.60 for a small bottle. I mean...come on. The staff are actually embarrased to say the price.
If I take the family to see a 3D film and it's not Orange Wednesday, the ticket prices alone would be £40+ at my local. If everyone got a popcorn you can add another £15-20.

Erm... Have a check... It may be enlightening...;)

EDIT: Films showing at my local Vue...

Bad teacher: 1.29
Bridesmaids: 2.04
Diary of a Wimpy Kid: 1.36
Green Lantern: 1.45
Gullivers Travels: 1.25
Kung Fu Panda 2: 1.31
Larry Crowne: 1.38
Pirates of the Caribbean: 2.17
Tangled: 1.40
Hangover 2: 1.42
Transformers: 2.34
X-Men: 2.11

Average of 109 minutes...;)

And so I'll rephrase my statement "Most decent films are around 2-2 1/2 hours long..." :p

Few are below 90 minutes (and not significantly) whereas a lot are above it significantly...

The mean length is not a suitable average to use in this instance, the median is a better average.

At the Liverpool One Odeon, they try to take food off you and won't let you in to the screen if you've got food that's visible,(for those who know this cinema, the really short security guard who is constantly in the power stance is particularly bad for it.) The last time it happened, they told us to "dispose" of the food so we ended up going outside and putting the food in to a backpack and girlfriend's bag, then coming back in.

I don't tend to go there very much any more, I prefer the Cineworld at the Edge Lane retail park.

Also, Bald-Eagle22 PLEASE stop putting spaces before your commas, question marks, exclamation marks and full stops, please! It's not how it's done. The space goes after the punctuation.

"£19.23. , Ffffffffff what ?"

is supposed to be:

"£19.23, Ffffffffff what?"
