If I was going to do that I'd just spend £2k now though , it's a more expensive way to do that surely? I'm not limited in budget, I just don't really want to spend more than that for a bike I'll use casually every weekend and then for half a dozen trips a year.

I want it to be as good as I need it to be now, otherwise it just seems a false economy. So what is the best option for £1200 - I'm not overly attached to a hardtail or full sus option to be honest, but I do want components which won't annoy me from day 1, which I think probably means a hardtail....

I wouldn't hesitate for a second

Here's the spec list

I'd prefer new and I need to buy before the start of August as I have a few trips planned unfortunately, otherwise I would wait for the sales.

That Canyon does look nice though, definitely one to consider.

those canyons are insane value

surely its a kick up the arse to existing companies

look at the orange five pro in comparision : its £1100 more than the Canyon Nerve AM 7 and most parts on the Canyon are a higher spec !

The only reason to buy Orange is to buy British IMO. It's like Americans buy Intense because they are made in America. But at least the premium of Made in the USA comes with VPP whereas Orange bikes come with a box section from a ship.

Ive been umming and ahhring as of late, i really dont know what to buy, so any help appraciated

What i need is the following :

Bag (maybe saddle)
Tyre levers
Inner Tube
Small pump (prefably one that fits inside the bag if thats possible)

I ride a mountain Bike so lots of off road action up and downhills too!

cheers all

I like the older Orange bikes like the Clockwork but they haven't moved on enough IMO. Too expensive for what they are. Plus they look fugly.

It would be funny if it wasn't true!

The spec on that Canyon is unreal for the price! Would be £500 more from a more mainstream manufacturer!

Bag (maybe saddle) - Camelbak?
Tyre levers - Any will do.
Inner Tube - I have a Conti presta spare, sure any decent brand will do, just make sure you get the one which matches your wheels/pump. A schrader valve won't fit if your wheels are presta only and you might need a pump adaptor!
Small pump (prefably one that fits inside the bag if thats possible) - I have the topeak pocket rocket and it works OK, pump it and it inflates the tyre!

The choice with bags comes down to how much gear you are going to want to carry, if you want it to have the ability to hold a drink and how long you are going to ride for (volume).

I got last years Camelbak Mule which is a decent all rounder for just over £40 from Merlin Cycles, pretty good deal I thought.

I love the hating of Orange bikes, lots seem to love them so they cant be that bad, i didnt like the ride though.

TBH I can understand why people don't like them as they are hideously ugly bikes. If having a bike that handled amazing meant it had to look ugly to work then that would be different but there are bikes out there that prove this not to be the case IMHO.

The rear section looks like they left to a 5 year old to design...

Am I alone in thinking the Orange 5 looks great? It's got the right amount of the industrial shipyard look going on to not be over the top, I think they've become an iconic design.

Nope, I've never been a fan of Orange styling but think the Five and Alpine look pretty good. Blood isn't a minger either tbh.

So having mad my old Specialized hardtail stolen, is there a better option than a Cube LTD Race for a £1200 hardtail? I've been warned they weren't kidding about it's 'race' orientated setup but the spec is quite something for the money. No frame problems or the like I should know about?

Have you considered the Specialized Rockhopper Pro? I had the 2010 one before it got stolen and I loved it.. It was very light and good to ride! I still kinda miss it although having it stolen did give me a chance to upgrade..

Charge Duster has a retro look :D
