Exactly. My ex girlfriend never understood my opinion on this, she was absolutely adamant that it's unfair no matter what job you're going for... even in the case of being dyslexic and applying for a job where spelling/grammar are critical!

In a case like that it's understandable, I mean if you're going to lose to company money by being bad at the job it's not that different to being a sales person who's bad with people.

There's work for everyone, regardless of disability or personality type.

I possibly do but have never bothered to check. I have issues with getting numbers the wrong way round in lists a lot, occasionally stumble over word order etc but it's not something that I've ever bothered to report to anyone. It shall remain a mystery.

That sounds like dyscalculia. Part of my old job was to take down customer phone numbers, and work out an estimate. I'm bad with numbers as it is, but under pressure it's even worse!!!!

I've had it for years, but I still have a high QI

In all seriousness its not been a problem for me career wise (although I really struggle spelling career...) it was difficult at points through school and uni but I worked out coping methods.

It effects people in different ways, spelling being the most common, essentially its a distinct deficit in one skill set made up for (usually excessively) by another skill. For example I struggle with spelling and expressing what I mean in written form however I've got a very high visual-spacial awareness and good lateral thinking.

Coping with it is all about working around your weaknesses and using your strengths.

yep, was diagnosed back in april time, hinded me in sense teachers for alevels had to do more checks on work than normal, however look at my first year of uni ( that i finished back in may) its shown in results a little bit

I am convinced that there are many lazy idiots who claim to be dyslexic simply because they can't be bothered.

Lots of people do that, it doesn't mean you have Dyslexia.

Friend of mine has it and says he makes patterns out of words. Sometimes he's okay but the majority of the time he just can't comprehend the concept of written words.

At school he had to have one of those sheets of flimsy red plastic to put over any words he had to read, helped him make sense of it all or something.

I am pretty dyslexic, had to change to a posh school from primary 3 > because of the extra help they provided. Was in learning support from then until I was in senior 5.
Never really achieved much in school, grades were bad and had to resit part of senior 4...fun!

Escaped into college and got an HND in Music. Went back to college after realising that my music fad was just to escape the academic school and studied computing.
Just completed my HND in Technical Support getting an A and highest mark in the class.

I've thankfully found a subject that fits into my dyslexia and how my brain works.
Now off to uni! God help me xD

Very true, there were two guys in my music course that faked the tests to allow them to get free laptops and software. That was very annoying!
