Why do people bother with this argument? Surely as people into tech we've seen it enough time to know how it ends? And if you haven't seen it enough times to know how it ends, it ends by nothing being achieved and people still using what they do.

We do not.

Hardware specs are not the be all and end all of computing.

Simplifying into a few groups:

1. Average joe - Buys Apple because it's cool/easy to use/hassle free/etc.
2. Computer enthusiasts - Two camps:
A: Think it's overpriced and prefer tinkering and overclocking.
B: See that the whole Apple package suits what they want and thus buy into the Apple eco-system.

Now obviously this is a simplification but from my experience it's mostly those groups of people.

You fit into group 2A. I fit into group 2B.

Why do you feel the need to attack our choice of technology!?

I'm not I'm generally interested as to why you prefer a mac. IMO and experience the only real advantages a mac has over a PC is in design applications.

I've yet to use another phone that I prefer I my iPhone 4. It might not be the absolute best in terms of hardware and software if you look at paper specs, but it's the overall package that makes it preferable to me and others. I like my GF's HTC Android, it a good phone with some nice features that the iPhone doesn't have and probably never will, but would I choose it over mine? Not a chance in hell.

People need to stop confusing opinion with fact, but this is the internet after all and that rule doesn't generally apply.

This is so ridiculous. The iPhone 4 is by far the most aesthetically pleasing, well built phone out at the moment. Nothing comes close. Please name another phone that isn't some crappy plastic knock-off!

These are both FACTS - if you disagree, you're WRONG.

It doesn't matter that other phones have now overtaken the >1yr old tech in the iPhone... the overall package is still fantastic.

You say they are idiots, but fundamentally they are generally using a better operating system than anyone use uses Windows (I say that both as a regular, casual computer user and a computer scientist). Perhaps they didn't realise they made that choice, but the outcome is the same

And again, OS X may be your preferable OS, but for many others W7 is, so you're sweeping statement that OS X is better is subjective and not applicable to everyone.

Architecturally Mac OS is a better OS; it isn't subjective.

Whether or not someone prefers X to Y is indeed subjective.

However, when you break it down from an engineering perspective and approach it pragmatically, Mac OS is the better operating system. There are 'mostly right' ways to design an operating system and there are 'mostly wrong' ways. Mac OS has more 'mostly right' design decisions, Microsoft Windows has more 'mostly wrong'.

Fortunately Microsoft are patching the 'mostly wrong' areas, but it still suffers systemically from the same 'mostly wrong' design decisions they need to continue for legacy.

Well this is clearly where we disagree because it's not (IMO obviously) the only advantage.

I don't know - you're the one starting threads about it. I don't think I've ever seen a thread started by an iphone user banging on about how he cant understand why people buy Android phone etc.

Havn't seen any HTC phone with a battery which lasts longer then my Iphone 4 infact, if i literally only use it for calling i can eep it out to 5 days before charging.

And on that note, there's nothing left to contribute to this thread (it was over inside 12 posts), should be locked imo before there's more metaphorical bloodshed

I do agree that Apple's mobile hardware is pretty good but others are on-top of them now so maybe iPhone 5 will be an improvement and have 1080p video and a higher res screen and dual core.

Higher res screen? The iPhone 4 already has the highest res screen available on a phone. As for dual core or 1080p recording, I don't think any mobile device those when it was released, comparing a phone that's over a year old to brand new ones is silly.

BUT it will still be over priced and there is no getting around that.

How can you say what's overpriced? If it does what the person who buys it wants then it's worth what they're willing to pay.

The SGSII is great but it's too big for a phone, has a low DPI screen and is made from plastic, things I don't want; which for me makes it poor value.

If you knew anything you would know the mp count means absolutely nothing in terms of quality once you go past 3mp or so. If anything it decreases the quality on small sensors like those used in mobiles.

True, but Android in it's default factory setting is just as easy to use, and just as fast (if not faster as it's has a daul-core CPU and boy does it get used!!!)

3D Graphical design and animation all I've really used a mac for in the past and I wasn't very good at it... In fact I think I've still got some of the "useless rubbish" I produced for my mate while we were in our "We gonna make a computer game" Phase of life... god damn collage was jokes!

I don't think this is the case. At all.

It clearly is. You feel the need to shout to the rooftops about how Apple doesn't deserve to be what it is, because you feel you have an inferior product.
Whether this is due to stupidity or feeling that apple owners enjoy their products more so are happier with them I don't know.
