Need buy a GPU for my TV PC gaming system.

Which one out of the 2.5GB GTX 570 & 1.5GB GTX 580 would you recommend ??

Will be used for gaming on my TV at 1080p...

Yea...more grunt>VRAM for what you using it for. Sure it might struggle with using 8xAA with some future demanding titles, but considering you'll be using it on the TV and the possible distance you'll be away from it, I doubt you would even notice the quality decrease if you drop the AA down to X4 or even x2.

No, they don't. 120hz just means 120fps, so you need more power to hit vsync (not more RAM).

High res and MSAA --> VRAM

580 for sure. The only way you'd use 2.5GB vram at that res is if you manage to find a memory leak.

Thanks guys...

Wonder if overclock is going sell the PNY GTX 580 cheap again (was £279 ex vat)..

Can't see it happening any time soon. Prices on Nvidia seem to be going up every week. Getting a bit stupid now tbh. If the PNY goes down to 335 again on 'this week only' I'd grab it.

I wait and see as am in no rush at all as it not my main gaming system..

It depends. If you just want a single card and never look for a second one to do SLI then definitely go for the GTX580 1.5GB.

If you ever plan to add a second card for SLI in the future, then you might consider GTX570 2.5GB. However keep in mind that it would be difficult to find another one in the future as it's rare.

I no be running SLI in this system as an SLI setup would ran to hot in my HTPC case

But it does have an SLI Asus P8P67-M PRO motherboard just in case i change my mind ;) :D ;)

That isn't affluent for 580 SLI, not even 570 SLI. Maybe 28nm cards are of a better choice?
A 720watt PSU will be enough for SLI GTX 570 if the CPU & GPU's are kept at stock speeds...
A GTX 570 max power draw is about 200watts, So x2 = 400watts..That leaves 320watts to run the rest of the system ;)

Even my SLI 580 setup in my main gaming system only draws over 700watts when my CPU & GPU's are overclocked

As others have said GTX580 all the way! To date GTA4 only uses 1.4GB VRam maxxed out @ 1920x1200 doubt anything else will come close to that in the next few years so pointless using more than a single GTX580 for a HDTV.

Welcome to the HDTV PC gaming club for those of us that have been PC gaming this way for many years (on non mouse+kb titles) its an impressive experience ;) I recommend everyone convert to it if they have the space/money as seeing PC games rendered @ 720/1080P with full monty everything on a large screen really draws the player into the experience!!
