hey gusy as the title says what sort of cooler will i need to run a i5 at this overclock 4.8ghz

as ive orderd the pre overclock tested i5 to 4.8 ghz i want to run this as cool and smooth as possible with out spending lots of cash

thanks again guys sorry im flooding forum but keep finding things i need to ask and seems here i get good awnsers and advice :)

Jordan97 is quick off the mark with a good cooler but you need to make sure it will fit in your case and doesn't interfere with your RAM.

You might also want to consider one of the all in one water coolers.

So what case and RAM do you have?

Could always get a water cooling solution like the h50 or that antec khuler if your ram is to big or your case is to small in width.

ok case is the shenobi

and ram is either gskill or the xms3

what a good mobo to run this overclock on because overclockers say you need a mobo that can run the overclock

thanks again guys

This is why we ask questions folks.

According to the Thermalright website the Silver Arrow is 162.7mm tall.

According to Bitfenix the Shinobi Window maximum CPU cooler height is 159.5mm and the Shinobi maximum CPU cooler height is 161.5mm.

The Silver Arrow would seem to be out of the equation, or at least it would be a very tight aqueeze.

What budget do you have for cooler, motherboard and RAM?

Do you want 4 or 8GB of RAM.

Do you need to run it at 4.8GHz? What you'll need will be expensive, and the benefits aren't that great.

A good mobo would be a P8P67 pro, GD65, Asrock Z68 Extreme 4... So at least £130-£140. A lot of 2500K can run at 4.8GHz, but then you'll need to pump some voltage in the chip, most likely over the recommended voltage (unless you have a truly golden sample CPU), and that's a risk.

I would settle for 4.4GHz, maybe 4.6GHz with a good chip. The limiting factor is not the frequency, but how much voltage you need to run at that frequency. And that voltage also dictates the cooling you need.

i would like to run it at 4.8 ram + mobo + cooler would be around a £300 budget

i love the case its a shame we cant fit the silver arrow in it would the fractual r3 be a better choice ?

thanks once again for al lthe replys

also a good mobo for around the £150 mark + or - abit depending on the benifit of the + :p

for overclocking and reliability need a solid board

ok i like the shenobi i think its a good case for the price you pay for it i just want a cooler that will keep the cpu cool and fit in this case ok and a nice mobo going to get a 570 gtx will this fit ? (want to go sli later on in the year) also want decent case cooling

ok ill put it like this

around a £950 pound main things are the gfx card porcesser mobo cpu cooler case i want good ones and a psu that can run sli in the future
