Looking for a bit of advice or am I just am being stupid!!!

Just bought the girlfriend her birthday present from a large reputable designer website a few hours after placing the order I receive the following email from customer service.

“Whilst preparing your order for dispatch, we noticed that the
Christian Louboutin shoe box is damaged and we are
unable to replace it.

We are sorry for any disappointment this causes and would like
to reassure you that the shoes are in perfect condition. They will
still be well protected in transit.”

Do you think I am being stupid by kicking up a fuss and asking for discount etc as this is merely a box! and as stated the actual product is unaffected; or should demand a comprise as I’m not buying a 20 quid pair of shoes from the market. Problem being not many sites are authorised to sell the designers goods in the UK - so going else where is not really an option!

Looking on places that sell second hand it appears the box can affect the value of resale hugely;

Unless the contract says otherwise, I would imagine that the price you are paying covers only the shoes - the box is a bonus. Also, what is "damaged"? A scratch? The side kicked in? By all means try a grovelling letter pointing out that it was a present, but legally I think they owe you nothing.

Bloody hell...them shoes are expensive
I'd be upset if I bought shoes that came in a crumpled old box when you paid that much.

I'd want a discount tbf, just imagine how you're GF is going to react when she unwraps her pressie to find a) a crumpled old box b) a different box....she'll think you bought them off a back of a lorry.

Yeah, point out it was a present and ask if there's anything they can do "as this is very disappointing". Put the ball in their court and see if they offer a discount. It's only a box, but then it sounds like you're paying quite a bit and some ladies like their branded boxes and bags.

If you don't have any luck, get a shoe box from Primark or somewhere else cheap and put the nice shoes in their, and then sit back and watch as your GF thinks you bought her something from Primark.

Pointlessly expensive shoes. Doubtless uncomfortable and borderline unhealthy to wear. Excellent present. Here, darling, **** up your feet in a bid to impress idiots.

Not used to being around women? Pretty much every single woman I know likes to do this when they go out...

And complains for it lol, But its still common practise

Worst "I'm buying my girlfriend expensive shoes" thread ever.

:D

Like me :D

I would kick up a fuss - you're buying it as a gift, and this gift isn't in a presentable condition. Unless they can giftwrap free of charge for you or something?

Giftwrapping comes as standard with the site but delivery is £10.00 so im paying for it somewhere down the line!

That is a good idea!!!!! i like that but issue i have really is im paying £600+ for an item and i need to go to this effort  plus with all her other designer stuff i know she likes to have them on display on top of wadrobe - bit like a trophy, sad i know but i think this is standard for most women.... Primark is not going to look as good in the mix!

I completely agree with this, if not the Primark box idea would be great :D
Think about it, she'll go from being excited at getting shoes (even when wrapped up a shoe box is a pretty obvious thing), then dire disappointment upon seeing Primark which will then make the happiness of getting Christian Louboutin shoe's even greater! Win!

I feel the OP is going to get a thank you 'gift' in return for this present...
;)

How are they unable to replace a box. Just swap shoes, change sticker size, order new box for other pair of shoes. I would email and ask them to sort it out since they are ruddy expensive shoes and they are a gift.

Hope you enjoy your new shoes.

I wouldn't worry about it more often than not shoe boxes got straight in the bin anyway, unless you had expressly made the box part of the contract it's not worth making a uss about if the goods inside are still in pristine condition.

It was very good service of them to also let you know, unlike some retailers.
