If you had £8000 to spend on a car, what would it be?

Sodding loads.

On HP output alone you've got the 98-02 XJR Jaguar, maybe a early XKR at a bit of a push, E39 M5s, etc.

And if you want to throw 'standard' and interior quality out of the window (which you obviously are by suggesting a jumped up Rover 75) we can name a long list of modified cars Japanese cars that will be queueing up around the block to give the Rover a bit of a kicking.

Lol at this.. The ZT was the best car Rover/MG ever made. You are showing your ignorance here. The 260 is not a "jumped up Rover 75 as it was totally reworked from the chassis upwards by Prodrive, then taken back in house when they started to run out of money.

The quality was very good. Nothing Japanese would give a 420bhp RWD supercharged V8 with 700 torques a "good kicking".

Id rather have something more refined like the ZT Saloon than some jumped up little turbo'd piece of jap crap.

Its all about the V8, thats it!! The sound, the torque, etc etc... Its not all about raw speed.

That it was - and it was a good car. But it wasn't a great car - merely a good car. Being the best car Rover made doesnt speak for much given the rest of the range was so poor.

To be fair you've rather cheated by mentioning additional modifications. Standard the ZT was what, 260bhp? Respectable but there are many cars which could give it a stuffing. Spend the same modification budget on many other cars and again, the ZT will be shown up.

Id rather have something more refined like the ZT Saloon than some jumped up little turbo'd piece of jap crap.

Context please - it's a Rover 75 not a Flying Spur.

And lol at this. That's like saying carbs is the best STD to catch

Oh, I'm aware that the 260 required extensive reworking to slot the 4.6L, Mustang derived V8 into the 75. Just because it required a lot of work to create doesn't mean that it is particularly brilliant car

Are you really sure about that? Spend carefully and £4k will get you 400bhp. The list of Jap cars that will make a circa 400bhp with 'basic' proven mods for £8k is extensive.

By the way, saying 'torques' makes you look like a ****.

Refined? Are you taking the sodding ****? Seriously? Haha. Its a Rover 75, not a Bentley for Christ sake. Sink £8k into one and you'll firstly never get it back, and secondly it'll look to everyone that you're rocking about in a £800 rover 75 with a bodykit. Tell people that you have £8k+ tied up in one and they'll laugh, despite all of your impressive torques.

The XJR I mentioned has V8. As does the M5. Both put out a similar amount of power as your purposed Rover, both are standard and both have the advantage of not being a Rover 75.

I've got nothing against Rover 75s in general. They seem to make brilliant buys at the sort of money the normal ones go for, but at £8k+? Haha :D.

Keep my dc2.

- Strip it down, sort all bodywork and get a full respray in gunmetal.
- k20 transplant with a tuned engine and get it properly mapped.
- gearbox sorted with mfactory synchros and gearsets. New LSD
- Some setting up of my current suspension setup.
- team dynamics rims with nsx or willwood brake kit.
- Plenty of driving tuition and trackdays.

Be happy

I think your talking balls quite frankly. You seem to forget that its a strictly limited edition car. Only 1200 were ever made. Its rarer than most ferarri's.

End of the day I'd not sink quite as much as £8K, but its such a rare car and I never ever said that its some sort of hypercar that would decimate the Nurburgring!

I just am totally taken with a nice big saloon car, that LOOKS stealth just like the old M5's to the uninitiated look like any other M5!

Lets be honest, you know thats part of the draw with these cars... No one expects to rock up at the lights and hear a 4.6L mustang engine snarling like its about to eat babies, coming from a "Rover 75" as you put it!

Thats part of the fun for me, and I cant think of anything cooler than a supercharged 4.6L v8 that offers M5 performance (in a straight line) in a totally stealth package.

Its cos Im getting old. Japcrap just doesnt appeal to me, and I think the only Jap car I would have would be a White Blobeye Spec C Sti with the DCCD..... ORRRRRR an EVO 6 RS, in white.

Shame the Scooby cant be got for anywhere near 8K. I know the Evo's can, but lets be honest, most people look like pricks in Evo's

In addition, the running costs on these rapid jap cars is ridiculous, where the agricultural V8 engine in the ZT is almost maintenance free its so unstressed.

You know what? I guess your right!

Addditionally, i think im probably patriotic, hence liking the ZT's and also having owned a Rover 200 Coupe Turbo in the past!!

I have owned a 75 myself - and through the owners club been taken out in a 260 V8, and as good as they are , a Jag XJR of same vintage is a far better place to plow a few rolls of cash!

Hence if I had the money, it would have to go on something Jag with an R badge on the back :D

Dont get me wrong, I would LOVE an XJR, especially the later all alloy facelift model.

However, they didnt make any manuals did they? I cannot stand Auto boxes, and will never own one.

probably more of the same tbh. i've been having car-change quivers recently, but without spending a LOT more i dont see how i can get anything better.
