Are you Homophobic?

Live and let live I say. I saw a couple - guys - on the bus kiss the other morning, up till that point I thought they were friends. :o :p

I did kind of mentally go 'oh' initially, but they looked happy so what's it to me really. I admired their courage though.

I do sometimes use 'gay' but in the jokey sense, I wouldn't use it around most company anyway so if I cause offense it's to strangers on the internet. ;)

Does finding the acts disgusting = homophobe?

No.

I find cooked cheese disgusting. Does that mean I am very scared of cooked cheese? Of course not.

Have you considered the possibility that you're looking at it too subjectively? What I mean is that you might well be thinking about the acts in terms of doing them yourself. People tend to do about that about anything, whether it's BASE jumping or toe-sucking or whatever. Fair enough in many ways, maybe even necessary in some ways, but it doesn't work well in some ways because it's too subjective. Cooked cheese is fine for other people. It's not disgusting for any sound objective reasons. But if I see someone eating it there's a part of my mind that says "that's disgusting!" The more thoughtful parts of my mind add "for me", but things such as disgust have some basis in more primitive parts of our minds that don't do much thinking and are much more self-centred.

Why do gays feel the need to throw it in our faces with gay pride marches & all the rest, I don't ever recall seeing a hetro pride march & if there was it would probably be banned as ' antigay'
Every day is straight pride day.

They throw it in your face to try and get you to see the issues they are facing, i think the message has got a bit twisted but the point of gay pride still stands, people regardless of race, gender, sexuality, preference all marching together, you get police, armed forces, etc.. all marching in the pride wether they are gay or not.

this really, I also have nothing against normal gays, but can't stand the camp, in your face kind. Bit like football fans who put on that stupid voice when watching/supporting a match, you don't normally talk like that, sort it out!

My gay housemate has exactly the same opinion – he hates the camp.

He once went to a gay bar and the next day we had the usual 'how was you night' chat. He said it was rubbish because it was full of queers! :D

Is it homophobic to use the word "gay" in a derogatory fashion? For example:

Not really, as long as there aren't any sensitive ones about :D

I'd hope anyway. It's tone and the way it's conveyed that causes most problems I'd guess.

Irregardless of sensitivity i dont think it is, just as the gays adapted the word gay to mean them there is no reason why it cant be adapted to mean something else.

Whilst most men like the idea of lesbians, in reality at least one of the couple looks butch as ****.

No.

You just don't think of them as being lesbian couples unless at least one of them looks very butch. You'll just pass by all the average-looking lesbian couples and assume they're friends.

In reality, homosexuals in general are as boringly normal as heterosexuals in general. Oh sure, there are some who go way overboard with femininity or masculinity, but for every gay man who's so feminine he makes Barbie look macho or lesbian who's so masculine she makes Crocodile Dundee look effeminate, there are dozens and dozens who are average people leading average lives in average ways.

The english language morphs and changes as society progresses (or doesnt in some areas), just because it used to mean scared of something doesnt mean that it has to now.

Ancient Greek, however, no longer changes.

The word "homophobic" isn't just wrong, it's deliberately wrong for political reasons. That's why it particularly grates on me.

I said no but I still felt very uneasy.

Would you have felt uneasy if you'd rejected a girls advances? I dont understand what made you uneasy

I once went out with my ex to a gay bar, She was Bisexual, we'd split she was going out with a possible girlfriend. And she was scared going on her own, so I went with. We were still friends!

Anyways, Basically I got drinks bought by guys. I told them I was straight! Didnt seem to matter, They still bought me them. So I thought fair enough!

Btw...Any excuse to tell that story, because at the end of the night I had the most NONE GAY EXPERIENCE OF MY LIFE..... ;)

Every day is straight pride day.

Only to some people who spew out that slogan to excuse their own irrational prejudices against heterosexuality. I don't think any of them actually believe it, anyway. It's just a tool they can use.

Some people are proud of not being straight and assume that all straights are prejudiced in the same way, i.e. they project their own prejudices onto their target group, as bigots often do.
