Do you tip the pizza delivery man?

For those that give it the "pay them for doing their job?" line, the jobs are taken with the knowledge that the basic pay is pretty crap but it will be bolstered up with customer tips.

Thats a shame. Maybe they should do something where they actually can add value to the process - because to be frank, delivering food that a customer has paid for does not really give much scope for paying extra for better service, does it?

If I pay by cash I will sometimes tell them to keep the change if it's less than a quid or two just because I'm lazy to be honest - though sometimes if they start digging in their pockets or money bags and counting pennies I let them stand there in the rain to count it out. If my order is £18.27 it's pretty clear I was going to pay with a £20 note and they should be prepared.

Otherwise no, why would you tip the delivery man? They get paid to do a job and you've paid for (even if it was "free") the delivery so don't get why you should tip - that goes for any kind of service, taxi, restaurant, etc. It's an American thing and I just don't get it at all.

They must get at least the national minimum wage which isn't that bad.

Delivering a package isn't really a service in the same vein as a waiter or a driver. Tipping a delivery man isn't required.

To take it further... does anyone tip their postman? Citylink/parcelforce/etc etc?

They have a much harder job (targets etc from what I've heard) and usually provide a better service than take-away delivery drivers for the same kind of money?

if your not a regular they dont know if your going to tip or not they have to earn it

It's nothing to do with being a regular, they don't have 'tabs' there on the whole (unless you're a regular). If you're only having one drink then fine, if you're having more than one and you didn't tip when you paid for the first one then god help you getting served again.

I never tip delivery guys as you usually have a delivery charge on top anyway, like my local Indian has a 2£ delivery charge. Pizza hut/dominos the food aint any good anyway.

But if I was in a restaurant and got great service and the person possibly made the night better then yeah I would tip.

Anyway, towards the end when I was finishing up, I saw him reach for his wallet. Happy days, big fat tip incoming! He beckoned me over, looked around the room as if someone was watching us and quickly stuck a pound in my hand. Yes, £1. The way he was acting one could've sworn he just bought a gun off me. He practically whispered with a proud wink as if he's done me a massive favour 'Get yourself a tea on me son'. Tight ****

I get this all the time. Often don't even get a brew from them, when I'm working there all week.

Most people who are much less well off will make loads of brews and even sandwiches etc. Often get a £10 tip at the end, which is nice.

Pizza man. Not really. I will stop him having to scrape about for change if its a matter of pence yes. I generally don't tip in restaurants either. Sometimes if service was great I do.
