Royal International Air Tattoo 2011

Thanks to Mad_Jay for the welcome. Too rushed off his feet manning the stand but I will email my address when I get chance.

Missed the train home so have had to pay extra but it was worrh it to get hold of the missing piece that completes my Concorde set.

Have 1300 photos to work through. Hopefully I will have a handful of good ones which I will post here when I have had chance.

What a Great day today was :)

Stars of the show for me were the Tornados that displayed just before the Vulcan, soooo fast and noisy it was insane :D

The Vulcan impressed me greatly, It was lovely to see the plane in person for the first time.

The Typhoon was possibly louder than the Tornados, but I saw it from a different view point towards the end, I shall DEFINATELY be going next year!

I missed the F16 and BBMF, but saw the Typhoon, Vulcan and Reds, so overall not a bad day at all.

They should offer medals to those who made it all the way to the Vulcan Village. It's no exaggeration to say that it's in the middle of nowhere about as far to the left as you can go. Given that I started that trek from Pimm's Flight Deck, which is almost as far as you can go the other way, I definitely want that medal! Probably explains why my pedometer reads 33,345 steps! :D

Worst in what way? They were rather limited by (a) a morning completely washed out, (b) several display teams being unable to make it to the show due to (a), and (c) low cloud ceilings preventing a lot of the more dynamic stuff.

Today was a bit better in that it was several passing showers rather than a deluge, but they still had to deal with plenty of cloud, rain and wind. Under the circumstances, I think they did a pretty good job (e.g. BBMF didn't think they'd be able to display at all but they did eventually manage to get up for five minutes).

What happened with the a10 display? Seemed very short. Still I would pay the money just to see the ww2 planes and Vulcan.

The saturday display they called off part way through, they said on the radio it was for technical reasons but didn't elaborate (I didn't hear anyway). It flew normally on sunday though.

We were watching from the farmers field (Rhymes Farm) adjacent to the runway, basically right under the display area so the planes are directly overhead. We were right by those explosions they set off during the Tornado display - my god they were loud - and hot! :D

i went there on saturday, glad i've made the right day.
