This sort of reminds me of the super injuctions, you cant talk about X, and the only mentions of X are ambiguous rules which can be interperated differently. So you won't know for sure if you have broken the rule until you mention something, and get told thats X.

See what they should have is context. The whole idea is for you to not promote a competitor whom sells competing products(which is understandable).

If your not talking about that company in a comparing products manner what should be the problem?

They cant have a spec thread with another companys links specifiically the a and s companys. But People might even talk that rainforest service down how rubbish it is and whatever.

How was the Kindle thread even allowed?

Customer service? you are all arguing that it's "ok" to talk about competitors on a forum which is a business.

Im saying that don't talk about competitors of which we sell our main products which is hardware. So Steam is fine, Origin is fine.

Yes we sell games too but these topics keep this part of the forum alive and its good to have members..

Thanks for the clarification. I think this is pretty fair to be honest. I'd just put this in a few more words, whack it in a sticky and lock it. I don't see why anyone would have a problem with this rule- just as long as Steam etc isn't affected.

Anyway, what competitors? There are no other game retailers in the UK- all hail OcUK for being the only provider of games in Britain! ;)

LOL at the 'rainforests' prices anyway.
I mean come on they're still selling age old hardware for more than could have been had at the time!

I understood the rule on page 3 of the original thread. Talk about panic :D

YOU'RE ALL NUTS.

That list assumes we understand how OCUK rules define a competitor. That's the whole point. Who are competitors? We need an extensive list of ones we ARE allowed to talk about.

A competitor to OcUK is someone who sells the same or similar products. Think of a handful of companies that sell the same products OcUK do off the top of your head... they are OcUK's competitors.

I'm confused... we can't mention the new digital distribution service... because of what exactly?

And really I'd prefer an answer that isn't along the lines "coz i say its a competitor". The digital distribution service has nothing to do with ANYTHING OcUK do. Trying to ban discussion of it is pathetic.

I'm sorry that's not clear at all. Define "similar" products. A kindle is similar. We have a thread dedicated to it.

That's a terrible example. OcUK sell monitors, mice and keyboards, and software. Any company that sells those things, among numerous other similar products, is a competitor. How hard is this to understand?

We really need some kind of whitelist, basically saying "You can talk about: X, Y, Z, etc, assume any other stores are not allowed unless they are added to this list"

its apple hardware/software support not advertising :)

Makes no sense to me. What are you saying? If we had a forum called "Dell" that would be ok because it's support for Dell manufactured products? Don't think so. It's a good question to be honest, why do we have an Apple forum if they are a competitor?

Problem is that one thread he said steam wasn’t allowed if ocuk sold the game and as people have pointed out what happens when people post the steam summer sales or midweek sales and ocuk sell that game

and in the other thread he said Steam was fine

So if all this fuss is about the new digital download service from that *un-named place* why has steam been brought up in the first place?

Confused? :o

Since when was OcUK competing against apple in it's current market to sell iPods, iPads, iPhones and Macbooks?
