Amy Winehouse found dead

That is a good point Easyrider.

Although I would argue as to the relative impact of Amy Winehouse when compared to many on that list, I think you would be hard pressed to justify comparing the impact of Amy Winehouse on her genre of Music to that of Janis Joplin for example.

But a good point nonetheless.

Both where artists thats the point I was making.

Like her or not AW was real and authentic nothing like the crap currently in the charts.

Like it or not she won 5 grammy awards and broke america with her second album. She is as relevant as anyone on that list.

Amy Winehouse was Jewish, therefore please note: a valid defence in any discussion can involve a charge of anti-Semitism and perhaps a mention of Hitler.
And depending on preference, a digression into Middle Eastern politics.

Location says it all ...

Yeah yeah I know, that old chestnut.

Can't say I was a big fan of her music and going off this thread she really was a marmite celebrity. RIP none the less.

Granted she may not be everyone's cup of tea, but surely if you have nothing nice to say it's better to keep your mouth shut? Basic politeness and all that?

At the end of the day a human has died.

RIP.

Off at a tangent a little bit, but had to reply.

(not related to Amy Winehouse)

However...

I simply cannot be as black and white as that, I can think of quite a few humans who have died/might die and I wouldnt be of the belief that at the end of the day a human has died RIP.

Jon Venables and Robert Thompson for instance, Hindley, Huntley and so on.

(as I say, not comparing Winehouse to them, just pointing out that I'm not the sort of person who simply believes that every human life lost is to be respectful of, there are some human lives who I will most definitely not spare an ounce of respect for when lost).

So was Hendrix so was Keats so was Lennon so was

Jimmy Page
Sid Vicious
Janis Joplin
Iggy Pop
Nico
Eddie Sedgwick
Ray Charles
John frusciante
Miles Davis

Along with millions of others

So if someone takes drugs and has an important impact on modern culture it means nothing?

:p

No, it just means that if those drugs end up killing them then our sympathy may be limited if we don't condone, endorse or embrace drug use, and it may even seem fitting in some cases.

It was an accident waiting to happen really. However it was clear that she did have a genuine talent and lets be honest, no matter how screwed up you are, 27 is no age to die.

No matter her demons and how much she brought on herself im sure she wouldnt have chosen this path if she was in control of herself.

I don't base creativity and talent on whether someone does drugs...I couldn't care less.

Basing one's Taste or judgement on "Art" or "Genuis" on drug use is foolish at best.

If she had of drunk herself to death then this is different than injecting brown?

BS

Meh, waste of life and talent.
I feel bad for her family but she knew fine well what she was doing.
If you are going to abort all your talent and live the rest of your life as a drug riddled comedy joke, then your death doesn't mean that much.

Goodbye Amy Winehouse, some of your music wasn't too bad.

For the record, I don't think moderate use of recreational drugs is the worst thing in the world. Her usage of hilarious filth drugs though... LOL.

Just another dead waste-of-space junkie tbh, I have ho sympathy for pointless self inflicted deaths.

Shame for her family though.

Thats just so wrong.

People in the heart of an addiction dont have a "take or dont take" choice the way you make it sound.

Surely no-one who has fame, fortune and talent would, in their sane senses, choose to be dead at 27? They have become powerless over their addiction despite having everything to live for. Im not suggesting you should feel sorry for them, its simply a character flaw and lack of willpower but the idea that people make a defined decision to go down that path isnt really fair IMO.

There are hundreds of millions of people more deserving of sympathy than her.
I don't have sympathy for the many other junkies dying each day, just because this one could sing and was a sure-fire shifter of Heat magazine, it doesn't make them any different.

Her voice is captured on CD forever, that's all she's ever done, so it's all good.

Like I say, my thoughts go out to her family.
Also, I feel sorry for the family of every other idiot who died from drugs today...

I'm slightly surprised it hasn't happened sooner to be honest, looking at the state of her over the past few years.

Can't say I was surprised to hear this. I didn't like her music much and thought she was a crackhead alchy who really needed to sort herself out, but she didn't deserve to die. RIP. :(

Well my dad had a huge alcohol addiction. He was powerless over it for many years. He was a smart man in a good job. He could have been your boss. By hook or by crook he managed to beat it. He hasnt had a drink for 40 years. However it could easily have killed him.

He is the same man, a good man. However if it had killed him he would have been considered "a waste of space" by this thread. Im not sure what he would be called because he has beaten his demon. The point is its very easy to judge.

No sympathy for the drug addled alcoholic.

So she could sing, big deal, plenty of people out there with talent that didn't get the chance to shine.
She got the chance and what did she do with it... Warmed it up and stuck it in her arm!

**** that and good riddance.
