*****Official Star Wars: The Old Republic Thread*****

I doubt it is September, they did meantion open beta weekends in September so my best guess would be October/November,having just finished my beta testing of ToR I was surprised they are going for release date this year,a lot of things still need fixing/completed in ToR.

You have to remember though, when you are testing the Beta the build that they are using is normally a month or two old with some patches thrown at it.

It's always when a new build gets released that you see lots of things get fixed.

Anyone know how fluid the animations and controls are in fighting? Wondering if it's more of a Warcraft feel which is very fluid and extremely well done / easy to control, or whether its' more like Lord of the Rings Online where movement is a bit sluggish, animations are played where you have no control over them (you can't break them mid animation and they root you to the floor).

I found the animations and controls to ve very, very fluid. Everything was responsive. You can break the animations, although everything happens pretty quickly.

That's good to know :) I was concerned with the combat since I can't try it out until either retail or I get on the beta. You played STO actually if you don't mind answering another question... I remember when doing ground missions you'd enter a place and the rooms would be huge like they were way oversized, the "bad guys" in the area were just standing around guarding and objective but totally lifeless doing nothing and it killed immersion. I've seen some SWTOR stuff that looks similar where it's a big open area with no people apart from a clump around objectives, this happen often or kinda rare and it's not totally lifeless?

I took that into account,I don't think you are going to see the newer build that has ALL the fixes etc.....the game should have been released next year IMHO,I'll say a lot of people are going to be disappointed in what they get regardless of bugs etc...

Some of you are saying that when you tried the closed beta there was a lot of problems that still needed fixing and that you dont think they should have released this game this year because of that and people will be dissapointed as a result - but I think we could be surprised by how much they will have fixed those problems, theres thousands of people working on the game and tickets are been submitted all the time by themselves who play the game and also beta testers and am sure they're fixing loads of things everyday, going through a whole checklist of things.

I reckon they can fix all the graphical glitches/sound glitches/broken quest before release...and if they do, then there's no problem, so guess we just have to wait a see. Also even within first week there's probably be a new fix everytime you launch the game client it will say "downloading 2mb fix" everytime you launch...infact I'll prob logout every so often to re-launch the client so that it can update unless it can auto-update whilst playing?

I just think people are thinking its harder then it is...theres a whole team of people sat at desks with tickets coming in explaining where the bugs are, they're fixing hundreds of problems each day between the team, and still months to go...I reckon they can fix all the holes before release...maybe they'll miss a few but they will catch em within first few months of release anyways...and any major ones will get fixed within a week.

Actually I was referring to gameplay/PvP etc(last part of my statement)...its not what some people will expect from ToR MMORPG.

End of the day they will find out once they get in and play.

Yeah but I was reffering to all the comments from the last few pages which is why I dont quote anybody...also people have been saying same things on other sites and youtube and under videos etc on verious sites.

I'm remaining very optimistic! lol

BTW...this might sound strange to some of you but I hated PVP in wow, world pvp and wazrones, I tried it loads of times over years, was always rubbish at it so always hated it, never interested me much, I love to do instances and raid...I wouldn't even care if there was no PVP in this game.

I can't wait to do a mission like this!

Really looking forward to doing some space missions shooting ships or whatever, I've seen some trailers, looks awesome, even if they're classed as mini-games, sometimes mini-games can be fun, like in KOTOR.

Depends on which rooms you are in - temples for example are huge, but ships and normal places are much smaller. In most cases the "bad guys" aren't doing much - just meditating or "busying themselves" (i.e. playing with consoles). It is quite possible that when you fight some reinforcements will appear (e.g. smugglers will climb down on a rope into view).

Many of the comments here are based on the most recent playtest (not a beta as such). A lot will be added and fixed, I have no doubt of this - but I have grown tired of the beta excuse. I guess we will just see at release.

Don't get too excited about these -
A) You are on "rails"
B) They need a load of balancing as they are nearly impossible currently
C) There is little need to do them
D) I don't think I found a single person who enjoyed the space combat.

It has a fair amount of potential, and graphically looks pretty darn good, it just needs A LOT (and I mean A LOT!) of work.

I hope they fix the lag because most days it was bad with around 65 players in my areas,I hate to see what will happen with 10000s of players....I guess only time will tell,we all hate lag death .

As to space combat well that's just say SWG space combat is 100000000x better ,enough said.

Really haven't been paying much attention to this so far, but my brother came to visit the other day and showed me some of the info so far. Of course, it made me start reminiscing about SWG and it looks like TOR could be quite fun.

Sigh. I'll probably have to get this now.

Apparently we were on a VERY small, low powered server. I know what you mean though, it could get pretty laggy at times.

lol....noooooooooo!!!!! don't say that!!! I'm looking forward to them the most, I know its on rails, and its a mini-game, sorta, but sitll could be fun...I remember in wow from BC onwards they put these misisons in where you'd fly on something, a mount or whatever and drop bombs, I enjoyed them, you could do them over and over again, there were all kinds of daft missions like that...the graphics are good on these space missions so its just the gameplay I need to worry about I guess, on the trailers they look amazing though...I just hope they're good and that I can do loads of them and more then once, like repeatable, as many times as I want, so I can logon and be bored of questing and just go do a space mission, would be cool.

I hope after release aswell they introduce even more of them! and put extra effort into that area!

Don't listen to that CaptainRAVE fella, the locals refer to him as a "crazy old hermit". :p

I just hope they are not as repetitive as they seem.

How long did it take you that have played to reach whatever level you reached? - Because in all the press conferences/interviews the developers keep saying theres over 200 hours of gameplay and it will take forever to get to max level (which is 50 if I remember rightly?)...so was just thinking thats going to slow down guilds getting their members maxed out and getting into raids ASAP?

EDIT: Ya know what...I'm probably speaking about everyone here when I say this but, I feel like I've read all the info on all the sites, looked at all the screenshots, watched all the trailers, read forums post, and now I'm basically burnt out and I've soaked up as much info as I can and now I'm just sick of waiting lol...I think am more excited for this game then BF3...I might have to just stay away for a few months or something and stop reading forum post and try and forget about this game...and then maybe the time will fly by faster...thats my logic lol.

Some players got to 50 within a month, personally I played 3 different classes and did not rush through the game, got to 22 on two of my classes,I did not play everyday unlike some players.

One thing I never do is rush through a game or any MMORPG,taking my time and exploring all areas I'm in is more fun then rushing through.

I wouldnt pay too much attention to the 200 hours thing, take WoW for example, what was the quickest that people could reach max level? 30 hours? Does that mean that there is only 30 hours of gameplay in WoW?

UO took me 2 years to get a maxxed out character, probably totalling a few thousand hours, does that mean that UO had several thousand hours of gameplay?

I've always thought that the X number of hours of gameplay which MMO devs tout is little more than PR spin. Like most MMOs, guilds and people will suss out the fastest way to level and I'll wager it will be a lot less than 200 hours.

Well my main concern is just that I want to be part of a guild for PVE raiding, and want to be there from beginning and not miss out...thats the only reason I play mmo's(PVE....as I hate pvp)...although it sounds like the big difference from TOR to WoW is that TOR is going to have better story/quest and because I'm such a big star wars fan I'll probably love the background info/quest/story as I level and will soak it up so much more...so yeah at same time I dont want to rush because I want to enjoy all that...but in the past I remember rest of guild in wow being 5 levels above me and telling me to hurry up...I think when BC came out aswell I didnt raid for first few days but rest of guild was raiding because they had levelled faster then me because I was at work lol.

My plan is to join OCUK guild because this time around I think it would be easier not to have my own guild and let someone else do all the work...but if the ocuk guild doesnt work out then I might make my own...

My own requirements for a guild is that everyone talks on voice coms and becomes friends...and also raids...if I cant have that, then I wont like the guild which will force me to make my own guild...when I played wow my guild was the best ever simply because we had the best community, because anyone who didn't want to be a friend didnt last very long, and yeah we had server 1st on 3 occasions if I remember correctly but it would have meant nothing if you didnt play with people you liked.
