Shock horror the Google Android chief has been caught blackhanded(geddit??) using a Blackberry 9780 Bold:p:D...you couldnt make this shizzle up if you tried lol.

Now i wonder if Jobsy uses an Android or a Blackberry secretly:p

While Google's mobile operating system may have consumer market momentum with Android handset activations hitting 500,000 per day, one person who appears to not be in a rush to abandon his BlackBerry habit is Google Chairman Eric Schmidt. Schmidt was in Indonesia last week for an entrepreneurship summit, and one of our CrackBerry spies on the ground in Bali managed to catch Schmidt black-handed snapping a photo on his BlackBerry Bold 9780.

What's really funny about this photo is that it isn't the first time Schmidt has been photographed while taking a photo on his BlackBerry. Back in July 2009 he got caught using his Curve 8900 (see photo below). Past precedent is always the best indicator of future performance, so I'm placing my bet we'll see Schmidt upgrading to the BlackBerry Bold 9900 next month. I'm not sure what this says about Android, but it definitely says a lot of good for BlackBerry. Maybe it's the keyboard, maybe it's the world class security, the BBM, the battery life or impossible to ignore blinking red light... or maybe it's all that and more.

There's nothing really "new" in that Bold that can be justified as testing out the competition, so at the end of the day I'm thinking that Eric Schmidt just loves his BlackBerry. Smart man. Kind of makes you wonder if he also has a BlackBerry PlayBook running Android apps?

For someone like Eric Schmidt, a BlackBerry will be far superior to an Android device. None of them are particularly good at being phones.

LOL just lol...do tell me why you dont think a BB or an Android are not particularly any good at being phones??.

I think Robbo was trying to say that none of the Android devices are great at being phones.

Its a no brainer that BB's are far superior for the Phone/Text/E-mail function when compared to any Android or iOS device.

Surely this is not a shock though. Its no different to the owner of the company I work for not wearing the clothes we make.

Care to expand on why not?

They don't tend to hold things like signals as well, they have generally better battery life and BlackBerry security for phone call encryption, etc.

If you're someone like Eric Schmidt, and you use the phone for phone calls more than anything else, a BlackBerry is what you would want.

For me Rich, its purely navigational. I find easier to make & receive calls & texts on my work phone than on my Desire HD but not so much however that I would buy one for personal use.

Browsing the net for example on the 9700 I have is awful and I'd be a bit dismayed at paying the extra £5 a month for BIS when the gmail app in Android essentially gives me the same for free.

I agree that BBs are better as pure phones (I work with them daily), but I wouldnt say Android devices are "bad" phones either (use one daily).

Totally agree. Can't say I've noticed a difference in terms of call quality or dropped signal but the loud speaker on my DHD is less than useless.

Battery life is another area where the BB's come into their own but then again they aren't powering a big touch screen display and 1ghz CPU.

I meant that no ANDROID phones are particularly good at being phones, numpty. :p

Welllllll next time say so numpty:p...i took your statement to say that you didnt both sets of devices were any good at being phones...

This seems like complete non news to me

Well in reality it isnt, i just posted it up for a bit of a laugh really...

That's what I thought. It's no big deal.

See above, it isnt a big deal in the grand scheme of things but you would think the head of Android would be using his own companys device...i secretly think Jobsy of Apple uses both Androids and BB's for himself:p

They will be with the new 9900/9930 devices and the new torch and all touch BB devices that will be out later this year...but i would still think the BB battery life will be better than the Android offerings at the moment.

I concur with Robbo.

If I wanted a phone I'd have a Nokia.
If I also wanted that phone to text and do emails it'd either be a HP Pre3 or a Blackberry.
If I wanted a portable multimedia device I'd have a high spec Android device.

As it happens I have a HP Pre2 for work and Desire HD for personal use.
