I was parked in an NHS car park and before I left I gave my ticket (which I paid for and had 3 hours left on it) to a woman who was about to buy a ticket. Then a warden came up to me and asked if I'd given this woman my ticket and I didn't know what to say so I said 'no'. Then he said he saw me give her something that looked like a parking ticket, that he would check the CCTV footage and that I could get fined up to £1000.

Anyone got any advice on how I could get out of this? He obviously doesn't know for sure and I doubt the CCTV footage could see exactly what I gave. Also I presume, or hope rather, that if I do get fined it'll be for something like £50 and not £1000.

Anyway I'd rather not pay that as I have recently finished university and have so far been unable to find a job, but more to the point how is this a fine-able offence? WTF.

Any help is much appreciated.

If thats true our local Morrisons would be raking the money in!
Pretty much everyone passes over their tickets if there is a large amount of time on it

But that really sucks if you do get fined!

I'd probably just be honest and say "Yeh I gave it her - are you not allowed to do that?" and then plead not to get fined.

I didn't know you weren't either :-/

I thought fines etc were worthless unless they are issued by the Police or the local authority in the case of car park offences?

I seriously doubt CCTV would be able to identify the bit of paper you gave her. If anything more comes of it then ask say you gave her your phone number and ask them to show the CCTV evidence that it was your parking ticket.

Sounds like a jumped up little nazi type, looking for someone to bully.

I'd have admitted it personally like the guy above said. If he said it wasnt allowed I'd have torn the ticket in two and tossed it at the guy, saying "Satisfied?"

You fancied her so gave her your phone number, only piece of paper you had was the parking ticket so you wrote it on that. If she decided to then use that ticket that was her choice not your intent

she offered to put it in the bin for you so you passed it to her , let them prove otherwise

in reality you will hear nothing

I wouldnt be worried. Ive done it a fare few times in pay and displays with no number plate entry. I paid £3 for all day parking, used about 3hrs. A couple eyed up my space I gave them my ticket and they were very grateful.

My argument is whats the difference if a different car is parking there, as it would have been occupied by mine all day anyway if I hadn't of left.

I couldn't believe it when he said it. It's like being fined for being nice.

He probably got my reg and car make/model but he didn't ask for my name or address and I didn't give him any such information.

Can he use my reg to send a fine to my home address? I'll be moving house in a couple of weeks and hopefully have sold the car as well.

I've being going over my options and obviously one of them is to just own up to it but I also thought that I could just say that it wasn't my fault if the woman didn't buy a ticket. But possibly passing the fine on to someone else is a bit harsh.

They are usually "non-transferable" but I always presumed that the person that displayed the ticket would be at fault, you can do whatever you want with the piece of paper but the "ticket" isn't transferable.

What's wrong with giving someone a parking ticket?

Parking tickets are non-transferable. It's technically fraud.

But, frankly, anywhere that enforces that are a bunch of ****** whelk ***** badgering ****** monkeys.
