So I got a PS2 on ebay and I got both these games.

My PS3 is broken and I dont have GT5.

I have read mixed reviews some say GT3 was best GT4 had better graphics but is not better game.

Others say GT4 is better as it had more tracks/cars.

Which should I play?

GT4 has much more content but I always loved GT3 more. It has a better soundtrack for sure and it was just a special game, the graphics are almost identical, there's not much in it.

Agreed, I played GT3 much more than GT4, it just seemed to be missing that feeling I got from 1, 2 & 3.

In fact I still get GT3 out on occasion when my mates come over :D

I've never tried GT5 as of yet.

i would go for 4, even though i did play 3 quite a bit i've never gone back to it where as i did buy a ps2 about 6 months ago just to play gt4 again.

You people talk of loving GT series, you MUST buy PS3 & GT5. Only reason i bought my ps3 was for GT5 and i dont regret it for one second. Logitech G25 / G27 is a must though imo.

ive been a little put off with gt5...last time i played it was quite some months ago but when i did it had different physics for single player and different physics for multiplayer. it just doesnt make sense to me. setting a car up and getting great times only to go into mp and the car handle very differently.

You can adjust the settings to put MP the same as SP.

I preferred GT4's immense car selection and the nurburgring, although GT3 does have a very good atmosphere. You cant go wrong either way both are fun games.

If your looking for 100% completion then GT3 is infinitely easier as GT4 has several 24h endurance races.

3 had a good soundtrack (second time Feeder and Ash had been in the gt game and they had matured well like the games) but 4 is so much more fun to play as a game. The extra races, cars and general things to do made it more fun :)

Im going to crack out 4 at some point with the wheel and see if I enjoy it more than 5, which was a let down

Just to be different I'll say GT4.
Probably played them both equally but GT4 was just a bit more win.
I liked the photo mode and the driving challenges, menu system was a bit of a pain but it wasn't a game ruiner.

Am I right with my memories, GT3 didn't have the Nordschleife? Worth getting 4 just for that. :)

GT3 for me, it just has more character and I suppose that's due to it being the first proper GT title on the PS2, whereas GT4 was just a GT3 rehash + some more features, cars etc. Man, I loved GT3, though I think at the time, GT2 may have been even better!

Please don't say GT5 is good. That means I'll have to buy a PS3 for just that game. Not good for my wallet! Wish there was a PC version, I really do.

On a related note, what's next for the GT series and Polyphony Digital? GT6?

EDIT: Feeder in the soundtrack is also win, one of my all time favourite bands. IIRC they had some good tracks in all the GT games that I have (1-4). 'Sweet 16' anyone?

I don't know why people are disappointed with GT5, I think it's a brilliant game. :)

Someone hasnt played enough of the first 4... :p

Sweet 16 is amazing! Loved Chicken on a bone, Tangerine and Shade on the first one too, never realised how much I loved the first Feeder stuff till that game.

3 MADE Just a day too

Neither. I can't say any of the PS2 or PS3 efforts have matched the brilliance of GT2 or GT1. I would happily tolerate the graphics for the gameplay on either.

I thought GT5 was a bit of a joke, PP spent so much of their budget on realism they forgot to allocate any to making it fun. Shame. :(

Played them all to death! Well... not 2 for some reason, I wasn't really fussed on 2. :p

Probably one of the worst things that anyone has ever admitted to in the history of humankind.

You didn't like GT2!?
How can this be? It's the best of the lot of them! I still think it's one of the best console racers I have played. Far better than a good amount of the rubbish that's released today.
Only thing that hurts now is the graphics... Ugh.

I can understand peoples gripes with GT5, the lack of premium cars (im sorry but i refuse to drive standards without cockpit view) and the lack of tracks as opposed to some games. But what i really do love is the physics (singleplayer everything off simulation wheel setting and ABS at 1) With a Logitech G25 its awesome fun.

Im not too keen on the way the menu is set out and i also feel that the SP physics should be the same as MP BUT after all that i still love it.

Besides its the first GT game with Lambo's which is pure bonus points.

Its certainlly come along way since release anyway it was released way too early i think still but after all that i just love gt5
