Ubisoft Deploys DRM Again; Hates Humanity

The one time code doesn't bother me in the slightest. I don't buy second hand titles. I don't even remember the last time I saw a second hand PC game anyway.

I've yet to be affected by the always online DRM whilst playing games that use it yet... But it's still a hugely scummy effort to stop piracy that really does have the potential to screw over customers.

What about if you build yourself a shiny new PC and go to install your game only to find that the one-time code can't be used again? I haven't seen anything which addresses this situation.

I live on a ship and even when I dont I only have tethering on my phone. A lot of the people in the armed forces will be in the same situation. Not being able to play my game at all for months at a time would be a pretty huge deal :p
No wifi on board?

It will still be cracked then only genuine players who bought their copy will suffer.

Exactly, which is why many people will never buy such games with DRM like this. Personally, I go out of my way to play these games anyway, just to feel smug and add +1 to their lost customers numbers.

Who here doesn't have an always on connection anyway? I mean most people play Steam games with their connection always enabled. I can see why some may be annoyed, but is it seriously a huge deal?

I live with a silly family that turn all the plugs off every night including the internet.

I have my own connection of course, but .....

My contract doesnt end until February and I want to change to the 3 one plan, but according to their website its only available until August!

I cant get my own seperate broadband / have no ethernet connection, and cant get proper unlimited mobile broadband which is what I really want so I can sod the cables.

I am fully relying on 3's one plan to be available in february 2012 for me to be able to have always connected internet.

Couldn't care less about the game, but this still angers me greatly. Scum is too weak a word!

Scum? I think it's about time this word was censored, it's the most overused word on these forums, by people who don't seem to understand its meaning.

No wifi on board?

Hotspots are required for Wifi to work on a boat I think, I dont think he is near one.

I have access to a BT hotspot, but the signal strength is only on a single bar so I'm not paying for that.

For some people, mobile broadband really is the best option, but only 3 have a suitable one that can be used for 24/7 connection.

No wifi on board?
The only thing comparable to wifi that I would get is sitting on the upper deck or bridge and tethering on my phone, depending on where I am. Im not living on the ship at the moment as its in refit so I just use my phone in my cabin instead.

Either way theres no wifi.

They'll never stop until people actually boycott their games instead of saying they will, then buy it anyway.

I just looked up the cost for the BT hotspot - £28 a month for 'unlimited browsing' with a lame 3 Gb FUP! Madness.

My current Tmob contract is the same cost with a 10 Gb FUP, 3's is £25 pm with no FUP, but sim free without a phone, though I have enough phones to use and my X10 mini with the easy tether app is absolutely fantastic.

My current 10 Gb limit gets wasted if I simply open up steam while tethered, and it starts auto downloading loads of crappy updates for games I'm not even playing! I assume they imagine that everyone that connects to steam must have no FUPs on their internet (cant really use the term unlimited internet anymore, because everything in the UK is advertised as unlimited with absolutely crappy FUPs).

I don't blame Ubisoft for doing this & support them as there are so many PC pirates around who will steal anything & everything regardless of cost or quality. Not had a problem with this DRM either its pretty seamless.

Personally I would rather no PC games whastoever than let pirates get the same experience for free! Ubisoft obviously feel the same way not that they make many games on PC anyway even worth buying..........
