Hi.

I'm looking to build a new PC. It will be used mainly for gaming. I'm just looking for some pointers on my spec so far.

So far I'm looking at:-

Intel Core i5-2500K 3.30GHz (Sandybridge) Socket LGA1155 Processor - Retail

Kingston HyperX Genesis Grey 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3 PC3-12800C9 1600MHz Dual Channel Kit (KHX1600C9D3X2K2/8GX)

Samsung SpinPoint F3 1TB SATA-II 32MB Cache - OEM (HD103SJ)

OCZ Agility 3 60GB 2.5" SATA-3 Solid State Hard Drive

I'm really not sure about a motherboard though, any recommendations. Is it worth spending £100+ ?

What do you think of these choices. Are there any changes you would make?

I already have a coolmaster case and coolmaster 550w PSU(Will these both be ok?). Also got an aftermarket cooler if i feel the need to overclock the CPU.

Thanks :)

Those are pretty good choices. Unless you are doing some heavy video editing or rendering 4GB RAM is plenty though.

If you go for the OCZ drive make sure you update the firmware. There are cold boot issues with it if this isn't updated.

Wether your PSU is ok or not depends entirely on what graphics you are running.

As far as motherboards go you need a P67 or Z68 board to go with that chip. P67 allows you access to the unlocked multiplier, but not the on chip graphics or the video transcoding engine. Z68 gives you everything. Just pick one with the features you need.

Thanks for that.

Out of these 3 then is the Z68 woth the extra money?

Asus P8P67 LE - £68.98

Asus P8P67 Intel P67 - £100

Asus P8Z68-V Intel Z68 - £129.98

Depends wether you'll be doing any video encoding. If not it's a matter of how many PCIe slots you need between the other two.

I won't be doing any video encoding at all to be honest.
I'll only be using the one PCIe slot at the moment, although the option of SLI would be nice.

Apart from the ASUS Z68 board, none of those boards are good for dual graphics cards.

The MSI GD53 is the best cheapest board that does symmetrical 8X/8X
