cheale meats abbatoir essex - shocking animal cruelty

Ok, call me horrible.. but we kill animals to eat them, they get slaughtered and die. Are these animals that concerned on their method of death? are they that smart? Does the pain an animal feel at its time of death really affect anyone and does it have an effect on their meat etc?

Apparently stress before slaughter makes the meat worse quality (probably due to the release of adrenaline and tensing up the muscles or something); so it is in the consumer's interest as well as the animal's that they are treated right.

My Firm delivered to that place until recently, lost their business to a competitor. After hearing this I don't think my bosses will want their business back somehow.

What's more pathetic is the argument that the footage was obtained unlawfully so cannot be used for convictions.. who decided trespassing laws take priority over animal cruelty laws?

This sort of thing applies across the board in this country. We have due process for a reason. It is no different to evidence the police obtain when they are supposed to have a warrant.

Not clicking the link.

But if people bought meat that cost more than a packet of crisps then you'll have some piece of mind that its had a nice life and been killed humanely.

It doesn't really work like that. The article demonstrates (though not its actual point) that the price of meat doesn't indicate whether the animals have been abused or not.

Absolutley pathetic that the footage can't be used to prosecute. Stupid rules, that make no sense and or preventing criminals from getting punishment they deserve. Sickening....

I don't know, i watched the video and it's cruel and callous and if i was 10yrs younger i'd be raging. This happened in a UK slaughterhouse with animal welfare legislation in place to try to prevent such acts occurring.

Globally the abuse animals suffer is unimaginable but what can be done? /apathy

As previous posters have said, there's good people working in the industry and sadly some not so.

I thought the vid of the pig was cute.

I'll only eat free range organic meats, eggs have to be free range, i'm lucky that i'm in a position that i can afford to do that. I eat a very small amount of meat.

I find Americans don't seem to care where their meat comes from, they don't understand about free range eggs either, i suppose that comes from a country that pumps their livestock full of growth hormes. :(

Again as been stated its not the method of slaughter were discussing, but the intentional beating of the animals and causing them to be more distressed than they should be, Yes we all agree they are getting slaughtered for us to eat, but why should they be abused before hand? and no less the mental state of the people doing it, knowing thats the last thing the animal will remember - Even worse if you watch the Ohio Dairy Farm video, then you will understand it clearer.

shocking that this sort of stuff goes on in UK slaughterhouses. I eat only british meat expecting my meat to have been raised more humanely than any other country.

watching this, what's the point, I may as well just buy something from holland or denmark where they raise pigs in high rise flats at 6 per metre
