Battlefield 3 no XP support

The sources that say that OEM windows cant be transferred are lies based on rumors by people that have never used OEM windows.

Nothing has officially been stated by Microsoft that you cant reactivate OEM copies after a hardware upgrade, and they never did anything to prevent me from doing so.

So wait - you currently have a 4850 and you are still using Win XP??? Why?

One thing which is true is the ridiculous price ramping of Win7.

You could pre-order it for about £50. I bought mine a year and a half ago for £80 (retail disc). Now it costs well over £100. Well over. Just crazy.

Thats true, if they kept them at the pre order prices, they would sell far many more copies than they currently do, and have a lot less piracy.

I can trade my Vista OEM license for an XP one, but I havnt needed it ever since I got Win 7 :)

(Vista was my first self bought legit windows, I was still a kid when XP came out and I was provided with a cracked version by my family, that got nerfed pretty quickly).

Actually I lied. I paid £89.99. From OcUK! Just checked my order history.

Currently retailing for £124.99 here and pretty much everywhere.

Why?

It was called a pre order offer, thats why.

I got Win 7 pro for £89.99 too, had to get it from the last place that was still selling it too because everywhere else had sold out fast, which was rather lame for a pre order offer. The home edition was £49 on pre order.

The pre-order offer was more like this:

I wasn't in a position to get the preorder of 7 and after that the upgrade cost way more than it was worth on the assumption I wouldn't be able to transfer to a new system. I haven't really seen much of anything that would make DX10 worthwhile, mostly it's not worth the performance hit which has been substantial.

, mostly it's not worth the performance hit which has been substantial.

the performance hit is because the games are still dx9 with some 10 or 11 features tacked on because they have to be compatible for the people who refuse to upgrade.

the games codded for dx10/11 from the beginning are more efficient.

Just read an interesting article about building a PC on the cheap to take on BF3, sub £500 is quite possible it seems.

Can't link due to competitors mentioned.

Theyre making daft assumptions imo, theres no telling how much the alpha represents final game performance. The options currently in place are just basic, can't see it being like that in the final.

Any examples? Just Cause 2 was better than GTA IV or Saints Row 2 but otherwise required some pretty hefty hardware, while the only requirements we have for BF3 suggest a system that could quite comfortably run 2 copies of Crysis side by side. True they're better than the first wave of DX10 features of CoH which caused triple digit frame loss but that's not saying much.

Just Cause 2 hardly needs hefty hardware, maybe PC gaming isn't for you if you want to keep your hardware for 5 years and expect it to run everything.

PC hardware probably can last for 5 years. I think my I7 920 will last at least 6 in total (will be 3 years old next year).

The only part that probably wont last that long are the graphics cards, but they should manage at least 3 years if you get a decent one.
