Hey,

I know this is a touchy subject however I need to hear from some console gamers what they think makes the console a better platform than the PC.

Please list your 5 top benefits consoles have that PCs don't. :)

I've heard points from the PC community but don't know many console gamers, so please be honest and try to back statements up with facts :)

Thanks,

Hatton

1. Offline multiplayer (split screen).
2. Backwards compatability (could be argued either way though tbh).
3. Just put the cd/dvd in and it just 'works'.
4. No drivers to **** about with.
5. Cheaper than a PC.

I would still argue PC gaming is better though any day!

I would have bothered to think of a decent reply but as soon as PC gamers get wind of this thread it will go south very quickly and all reasoned debate will go with it.

This thread will go well. :D

But mglover070588 pretty much said the same things I would.

I would also add that Consoles get more/other genre of games that the PC doesn't get. But then it's also a vice versa answer for certain PC game genres.

In the end, who cares, get the best of both worlds by having both!

for me its purely the cost and ease of use. PC gaming is much more expensive for the same experience and its never quite as plug and play as it could be.

for me, a decent laptop + 360 or ps3 is all i need.

that being said i still have a decent gaming pc at the moment but i doubt i will ever replace it.

1, more games
2 they work with no issues
3. consoles are considerably cheaper than a decent gaming rig
4. console games have resale value, PC's generally dont get touched
6. pretty sure more games are exclusive for console than for PC ;)

1. Ease of use, everything just works with minimal user effort. Same with online play
2. Titles that don't appear on PC
3. Local multiplayer
4. XBLA/PSN - greatest part of this gen for me
5. Kinect - It offers something different and is a lot of fun alone or with others.

And for the record I have a very good PC too, it fulfils a whole other set of pro's and imo you need both to experience everything.

im a console gamer and was for many years.

recently decided to buy a new pc, thus so far have spent around 2k but this includes triple monitor, 2600k, crossfire 6950 etc.

ok so its safe to say i have a good spec and for a while i hadnt touched my 360 where i normally play forza.
On the pc i play any game such as race 07, f1, crysis etc.

yesterday i turnt my 360 on to race some mates on forza, jesus what a difference it was like comparing a playsation to playstation 2.. all blocks, no smooth, fps issues etc...

however for the playability these things cant be matched, a few times my pc games have droped out, or they wont load or whatever which is extremly frustrating when i know i can just turn on the 360 and away i go.

in my opinion you are not comparing apples with apples.

High spec pc games are for true entusiasts.

1. Split screen
2. Great games on consoles that are not on pc. (Pc has some 2 e.g RTS, FPS)
3. No installtion requried
4. Play from your sofa :)
5. Cheaper (no need to upgrade parts to play the newest games)

They both have there good & bad points i use both, but my PS3 gets the most use as I enjoy playing split screen games.
One thing i can say i will never play a rts on a console unless it supported mouse & keyboard.

On this forum the console section is a much more pleasant place to be than the pc gaming section, very few fan boys, or trouble makers. I don't miss the other sub-forum since making the change to consoles, so thats at least one good benefit:)

That one is quite debatable especially when you consider the PS3 mostly.

Some games are either optional or mandatory thanks to the speed limitation of the Blu-Ray drive.

Just a quick list, in no order

1) can sit on couch when playing
2) no "hope it will run in my console"
3) Xbox live
4) local multiplayer
5) pre-owned games

keyboard/mouse owns controller for fps but im beginning to regret spending so much on my rig when all i do is pretty much play fps games badly :( i guess im not as hardcore as i thought i was.

may as well stick to consoles and suck at that instead :D

Consoles have come a long way in the last few years but you still get technical issues like:

1: Corrupt Harddrives mean you have to reinstall everything again & a lot of stuff like DLC is obviously downloaded so you have to wait as consoles do not like downloading & gaming at the same time. The corrupt HD has happened to me twice in the last 6 months on a brand new X360!

2: People say just put in a disc & play on consoles but more & more you have to download update patches & have a constant online connection then many console games are buggy & some never get fixed.

3: PC has free online play which is superior to consoles.

4: Consoles rely on PSN/Xlive not being down when/if they are (and both get issues from time to time even when they are not being hacked! your console can become unuseable until they come back up).

I have both PC & X360 & would say if you can only afford 1 get a PC the games are cheaper & you can hook it up to a HDTV easily for armchair gaming with superior gfx & a much higher FPS.

Your wording might be read the wrong way so just to add;

1. No different to PC's if hard drives are borked, but I will say it is much easier to backup, create images, quicker reformats/reinstalls on the PC. Consoles are slower in this regard.

2, 3 & 4. Games that are more online focused & specific then yes, it will require updates and having the PSN/Live service to be up in order to play, but otherwise a lot of offline single player games are still playable. Doesn't mean that the console is unuseable. And PS3 has free online play whereas 360 doesn't. But yes I will say PC online is still superior due to the many easy and advanced connectivity options.

there is one benefit that outweighs all pc arguments to me which is:

i can sit on my couch infront of a 42" screen in extreme comfort which is what i want after a day at work, not sat on a computer chair at a desk

I'm having this debate same myself but about Battlefield 3, I have always been a PC gamer at heart but there is nothing like vegging out on the sofa and playing with surround sound.

Console gaming is also a lot more sociable to play with friends / family too!
