How much debt do you have?

I think I'm actually in credit with regards to my debts. Have a smallish overdraft, however I've paid back my student loan twice... the company I work for hasn't submitted any financial details to the SLC for 18 months, so they've carried on charging me silly moneh despite me having properly paid it off ages ago :(

Have a mortgage though, which is currently not being paid off.

No debt, no mortgage, student loan paid off :) (people advise not to pay it off but I just don't like it being there!)

According the Wife, the level of debt is immaterial, it is whether it is manageable debt that is the issue.

Better to simply have none, just save for what you want and be done with it.

Well if you take in to account car insurance and lease finance, then about £15k.

Got 3 holidays and a proposal this year too so I'm surprised it's not higher. There may be some purchases on a CC in the next month or two

I've been in debt in the past, never massively, the most perhaps was around £20k. A friend of mine was in terrible debt, circa £30k I think and had just lost a job. Funny to think if he had told me at the time I could have helped him out of it fairly quickly, but then I guess if people keep bailing you out, you don't actually ever learn?

For those who might be struggling with debt, there's a great app in the applestore for mac (I assume maybe ipad and iphone too, not sure). It's called Debtinator. Fill in your details, your income, expenses and the debts you want to pay off and it gives you a structured payment plan and tells you, if you stick to it, when you'll be out of debt.

Ism't the saying:

"Buying things we don't need with money we don't have to impress people we don't actually like"

agree with this.

Outwith my mortgage-

we (me and them missus) have approx 11k on a loan over 3 years left - that i used to purchase a car.
About £900 on a credit card 0% - just booked a weeks holiday.
Not technically a debt but the wife has a car on contract hire for the next 2 years paying £300 a month.

All perfectly serviceable and I could pay them off if I wanted but happy to leave them as they are.

8k, paying off £775 each month, which is a manageable ammount without becoming a hermit, if I keep it up, I'll be completely debt free by my birthday next year :)

As of this present moment. About 15k. That includes a student loan which I have around 4K left to pay. The rest is 9k loan I just took to get rid of the credit cards, and pay for flying our dogs to the states (Believe me.. it's expensive nowadays). The majority of it will be paid off in the next couple of months, before the the move over the pond.

(Off-topic: How will I find a decent forum like OcUK over in the states! d'oh!)

None.

About £500 on the CC this month, this gets cleared every month though, if I use it at all.

About £900 of an overdraft to pay back and £5k to my Dad. Student loan too but I'll start paying that back come September.

Won't start repaying until April 2012. That's how it worked with me. Started employment in June 2010 and started repaying the following April 2011 with the new tax year.

None and never have had any.

That said i'm by no means well off and despite saving as best i can really haven't saved enough for something like a decent deposit.
