Do you undertake middle lane morons!

Middle lane hoggers are more dangerous than anything else. In the case of a dual carriageway, i will indicate left so the driver in front can see I want him to move over to the empty left hand lane. If he won't, I'll just move over and give him a confused 'don't you know how to drive'? look.

Undertake them. If they don't like being undertaken, why are they in the middle lane?

Matt82 - Actually its the right hand lane, or lane 3, if your going to be pedantic. However, to anyone who learned to drive more than 5 minutes ago, its the fast lane, and always will be.

I overtake on the inside fairly regularly. Some people get upset, others are driving along in a dream world and barely notice. IME white van man tends to be the most agressive, clearly they have major ego problems with people passing them, which is likely why they are blocking the outer lanes in the first place.

I do find myself undertaking middle lane hoggers but I try not to. They are more than likely the kind of people who don't check their blind spots when changing lanes. Undertaking them puts you in their near side blind spot where they wouldn't expect anyone to be.

Shock horror should they decide that it is a good time to move over from the middle lane, I don't want to be undertaking them, as they won't look and will cut me up. It’s a pain, but it’s safer to overtake IMO.

I used to do the 'proper' thing.

It happens so much round here... on the 4 lane stretch of the M1 people round here seem to think it's ok to just sit in lane #3 (with lane #1 being the 'slow' or only lane that isn't an overtaking lane).

Usually at about 60mph.

I can't be bothered with them any more.

If I was to get stopped and questioned about it... my explanation would be that it's a lot safer to stay in the normal lane and continue on as expected as long as there is no obstruction and attention is paid to the numpty in lane #3... rather than switching 3 lanes to the right and then 3 lanes back to the left.

Even if it's just a 3 lane stretch... same applies.

2 lane could be a bit more awkward to explain to certain traffic cops... however if the person wasn't sitting in lane #2 for no reason, I would not have had the ability to pass them on the left. If I have the ability to pass them on the left, then they are in the wrong lane and performing an incorrect manouver... they are the ones who should have been pulled over, not me... while 2 wrongs don't make a right, I would not have had the ability if the other person wasn't a twit.

I used to get annoyed with them, now I just ignore them... heh... sometimes I would **** with them... would almost certainly have a faster car and would play with them til they decided to choose the correct lane or I couldn't be bothered driving so slowly... I can be a ***** at times :D

In my truck, I tend to stay in lane 1 as long as I'm generally flowing with traffic, yes I will undertake in certain scenario's, usually when the motorway is way below normal speeds, this is pretty much unavoidable in most situations.

When I'm cruising along, no. I'll sit behind and generally wait until the middle lane squatter gets the hint & pulls over.

I have no end of numptys who insist on shooting up the inside of me if I'm passing something (like another truck) they either slam on the brakes as they suddenly appreciate that I'm overtaking a slower vehicle, or, they cut back into lane 2 from lane 1 with inches (if that!) to spare, or they just find my blind spot & sit there.

a lot of truckers tend to hog middle lanes, sometimes they are being mere arses and are no better than the many other middle lane morons, other times it could be for a good reason (such as taking a tight left hand turn) - although this is unlikely on a motorway! - I'm just saying bear this in mind before you nip up his inside, if he starts turning, he won't see you......... ;)

Ha ha I wondered why I kept getting passed on the inside maybe I should speed up a bit :D

I will normally pass them on the inside if it is safe to do so and depending on what other traffic is around, used to drive me crazy and I'd make big sweeping turns in and out of the slow lane flashing my lights on the out , what an idiot I must have looked.

Doesn't bother me at all these days and like other have posted these drivers normally look totally comatosed and would be lucky to spot a nuclear explosion next to them.

I always try and do the right thing, although recently had to undertake someone.
Going along single lane, came to a hill with two lanes (crawler on left) - the woman proceeds to move into the right lane and drive at 30 up a 50 road...
200yds later and everyone is undertaking her.
Plus she carried on to the very end of the merge back into one lane and then seemed surprised when her lane disappeared! :(

I try not to, but I don't make a deliberate point of pulling out and in again if it's dangerous, even if it's clear, I'll pull out nice and early, and then pull all the way back in if it's safe to do so - there's just no point in doing silly things on the road these days as half the people don't pay attention or even care - furthermore, some nut job may get wound up and do something stupid.

If there's a fair bit of congestion in the middle and outside lane and the inside lane is free I just carry on as I am going on the inside lane - but don't make a big show and dance of "under taking".

It is frustrating though as it would improve traffic flow so much by people moving over :( Shame people don't get it...

Very rarely undertake middle lane morons because annoying as they are, there's no need, plus I'm rarely in the inside lane myself unless the road is empty. Outside lane hogs, on the other hand, really are annoying. I still wait behind patiently for a while, I wont tailgate dangerously but sadly that means the numpty often doesn't get the message. I'll try a blast of the lights, then if they still dont get the message I'll be up the inside probably shaking my head at them as I pass.

I have undertaken them before and still will if they refuse to move over and there is no other way passed. Sometimes flashing them will make them move.

Recently saw a woman in the 3rd lane of the motorway doing about 60 mph, nothing in the other 2 lanes, at least 6 cars under took her before she moved over. I think she got confused, maybe a new driver or foreign and forgot what side she was on.

In my old Saab I could make the HID's strobe, I used that once and made some stupid woman change lanes really quick :D

I never undertake them but I do Rage inside.

I normally go into the middle lane and hope they move over if not I just go into the fast lane.

Courtesy, simple brain power and logic all seem to be nonexistent these days. I remember when I were a wee lad in my dad’s car it was perfectly acceptable to flash somebody to overtake, do that these days and it's interpreted as a glove across the face and an invitation to take part in the wacky road-rage races.

Also, as somebody posted on the first page of this thread, people genuinely seem to think that the outside lane is the "fast lane" so on the basis that they are going fast they sit there forever until 50 yards from their exit when they do a left turn.

Do I undertake, hell yes, I've given up going across 2 lanes just to get around a middle lane moron.

Be in the inside lane, swoop out into the outside lane and go past them at eleventy million MPH, then swoop straight back into the inside lane.

That'll learn them.

I see it all the time. 99% of the time it's a woman/girl or a pensioner sitting in the middle lane at 50mph.
Lol. It's not usually anyone in particular when I see it.

I'll quite often undertake because on the M25 it's usually safer to stay in lane and undertake than to move across all 4 lanes to overtake the moron sitting in lane 3.

God knows what it will be like if we ever get 5-lane roads.
