You don't need a 3 wood, hybrids or a driver when you're starting out - you will need a putter though, I'll give you that :-)

Personally I'd get a 2nd hand set of irons and grab a cheap putter that you're comfortable with from somewhere like American Golf that will let you try them out. Once you're comfortable with your swing and getting some consistency go and try a few drivers and pick one that fits you.

I have been with him before on week nights, cant go on weekends due to comps, its over £1000 for first years membership then about £700 each year after that, maybe when I am older I will join and have a spare £1k, my dad goes twice a week so its only £7 a round so its not that bad.
 
Had a nice game at Owston Hall GC yesterday morning while I was down for an interview in Bradford. Very flat compared to the courses up here in Scotland, but I guess thats just how it is down there.

Anyone else who keeps their clubs in the car at all times, "just in case"? :D
 
if youre looking for 2nd hand irons i can recomment the calaways. If youre a beginner they have quite a wide heavy base to them which helps get the ball up in the air easier.

I always keep the clubs in the boot too :) Had a great game down at Cape Cornwall the other day and, after 12 years, managed a hole in 1!! 23 points on the front 9, 15 on the back so it obviously went to my head haha

haha:D I take massive amounts of stick for the hair, I feel naked with short hair though!

played today, and played well! gonna have to get myself some golf shoes when I decide to move from 9 to 18 holes! They all look so uncomfortable though..

I got some relatively cheap (£30 quid ish) RAM ones from Soccer Sports, and they're the most comfortable shoes I own :-)

Take a look at Footjoys or Ecco, I've had both these in the past and are incredibly comfortable. The only problem is they can be quite pricey.

I've also had Nike and Adidas in the past both of which I wasn't overly impressed with if I'm honest. Having said that my mate swears by his Adidas Tour 360's.

Here are my current shoes, it's like walking around the course in a pair of comfy slippers :D

Managed to get them cheap a couple of years ago from pargolfonline, think I only paid 50 quid for them. I usually buy most of my golf gear in the off season when it's generally cheaper.

They've lasted pretty well although I think I'll be needing a new pair before this Winter sets in.

Thanks for that, I ended up with some Nike Vintage Saddle golf shoes from Sports Direct: http://www.sportsdirect.com/nike-vintage-saddle-golf-shoe-mens-288015. I tried a couple of Footjoys but at my budget, they felt a lot stiffer to me than the Nikes, and the Nikes fit like a glove for my foot so it had to be them. £40.

Footjoys for the same price felt relatively horrible. It left me with the impression that budget Footjoys aren't using very comfortable fabrics, though 1. I'm sure as you go up the model range this improves and 2. there might have been better models that I didn't try. Those Nikes above fit me ludicrously well and make me feel like my feet are in pillows.

PS thanks Jason for yesterday, had a hit at the range, loving them ;). A bad shot doesn't go any less far or less accurately than a bad shot with my old cavity backs (in fact bad shots went further if anything), but they really let you know how you've mis-hit it. I didn't find the resonance unpleasant or painful, I'd just describe it as accurate feedback. But when you middle it...smoooooth as butter.
