lomography

iirc you can apply a LOMO filter in many photo manipulation apps, whether this is authentic or not I do not know.

she spend lots of money on a camera and didnt get a canon? son, i am dissapoint

yeah, looks like a disposable camera with a retro case

Lomography is actually quite cool. It produces a particular style of photo and inspires a different kind of photography that's more reminiscent of the characterful 'moment' photos of old; something that's missing from the thousands of digitally enhanced perfect modern photos we are presently surrounded by.

she says that an slr is too expensive, but surely for a £100 more you can get a very decent camera?
Well, £120 will buy you a pretty decent camera anyway.

But for some it's the method rather than the result that is enjoyed.

I hope she knows what she was buying :D ie a med format retro cam with an awful plastic lens. If so then it will be just what she wanted and if not she is in for a shock when she tries to put a memory card in ;)

She will be bored of that inside 2 weeks, but I hope not as it would be a waste.

It is an interesting camera but £120 on a digital camera plus some free software like GIMP to achieve the look would be better value for money, unless you really want to shoot film.

I think a digital camera and editing to simulate the look takes away the artistic and personal qualities of lomography.

It's not a rubbish disposable - because it's not disposable. It's reusable. But still, the camera itself can be fun if you don't take it too seriously... that said, to not take itself seriously it would have to cost a hell of a lot less than £120.

£120 can get you some amazing film gear... hell, £40 can get you some amazing film gear nowadays. She would have been better off with something like an Olympus Trip 35; unless you have >£500 to spend 35mm is almost always a better place to start off than MF.

Lomography is a rip off for hipster idiots who think they're being 'creative'

you can buy old and plastic cameras on e-bay for much less $$$

It may be a rip-off but that doesn't stop it producing some quite cool photos.

And that also doesn't stop something that costs a fraction of the price producing some quite cool photos. It's plastic rubbish, get a decent 35mm camera and you can take far better pictures than you could with that. Olympus Trip 35/XA or even a half frame Canon Demi if you want to spend a bit more. Hell, even an SLR kit can be had for far less than that and would be infinitely better.

As i said, stuff like that and Holgas can be fun just to play around with but you certainly can't pay that much for them.

I think people are misinterpreting what I am saying here. I am just offering my opinion that it's quite cool and produces interesting photos. I am being indifferent to the cost. I wouldn't pay £120 either.
