Riots in Tottenham, London! (NO RACIST COMMENTS)

I doubt this is the end of it unless some hard handed tactics are used by the police force. I don't condone what is going on as it is criminal & unjust with the people suffering being the local communities. However, to categorise these events under the rubrics; 'foreigners/immigrants doing wrong' or 'just yobs being unlawful' is a little narrow minded & short sighted.

This unrest has everything to do with socio & economic tension that we are facing as a country & worldwide. The spark that is lighting this mobs behaviour is a valid one but the 'fire' that burns through the communities with the inner rage of their mindless, criminal acts is not.

Anyone who has studied psychology will understand that 'mob' behaviour is never mindful but an expression of inner anger, wants, desires, frustration & disappointment being allowed to be 'safely' expressed within a group of similar minded people.

I have read that you can not compare these to the protests in Egypt/Syria/Tunisia etc. with one very good comment on Twitter stating "Teenagers of Syria are rioting for freedom of rights, in London they are rioting for LCD TV's".

Although I agree this is partly true I still think there is an underlying reason why we are seeing these scenes in London. However, the greater risk for us as a nation is this 'mob group think' spreading to other areas within the UK where the economic tension has further strangled communities that were already having difficulty breathing freely. I imagine this is a real concern for our government & police forces.

I speak for myself here in that compared to 3 years ago I earn a lesser income & am having to work harder for it. I know I am not alone as the recession has deepened but I am able to earn a living, have a roof, feed myself & enjoy hobbies. I think that for someone who had very little to start with to then have to make cuts & work harder to earn the very little they do then the frustration/anger/worry/anxiety is understandably much greater than my own.

I'm sure some of these 'families' have the threat of homes being repossessed, bailiffs being called in looming over their heads, debts, job cuts etc., whilst they see & hear (whether valid or in gist) about corruption within the government, policing force, banking sector etc.

As I said, I certainly do not condone what is going on but I certainly do understand & am disappointed by the level & frequency of outright racism on these boards but then again it shouldn't surprise me as unfortunately 80% of the time ignorance breeds ignorance.

And to those that get the 'bigger' picture:

"Never argue with a fool, they will lower you to their level, then beat you with experience"

Nonsense, UK is one of the least racist countries in the world. One of the countries that gives the best possible start to people though our free education system, generous benefits, free health care, and so on.

Plenty of people manage to succeed in life despite coming from very poor backgrounds, but it does require determination and good parenting

As has been said before, I think people need to start looking at why, in general, Black people are so disadvantaged, wherever in the world they are.

There is a reason Africa is the poorest continent with the most problems. It is no one else's fault. Seems to be in the genes or something....

Did you really just say that? :/

The root of Africa's problems stem from when Europe raped Africa for all it's worth and enslaved its population.

This is despite Africa having the potential due to land and mineral deposits to be far, far, far more prosperous

The whole "colonial powers" argument does not work either

Yes, and it is so true.

Ok, if you feel I am incorrect, please state why? Why is Africa so screwed, and has always been, FAR before any colonial interventions. Bearing in mind Africa is one of the most resource rich areas of the globe, they should be doing pretty well.

Free health care?? So my £350 quid a month National Insurance pays for what?

Nothing for free my friend

Their land has been raped and pillaged by the West.

There was a story this week about an oil company which has trashed part of Nigeria.

I already did state what and why. :)

I would not equate it to genes personally (there is no scientific proof for that), but there does seem to be something ...

Zimbabwe anyone? They had lots of very good farms, producing things .... now?

You mean those same farms that have been in complete turmoil for over a decade? Oh right.

lolrypt.
