My New Car - Something a bit German.

Nice, looked good at the RR meet, autobox seemed to suck a tad more power than you expected though as it came pretty close to the bhp my Boxster S made.

I'm gonna sound like a total idiot here but what does Targa actually mean and where does it fit in the 911 range?

Its not a cab and its not a coupe. Its effectively one big glass roof with half it sliding back.

Did you not buy that 3500 GT from DM in the end?

is DM really permbanned or just on holiday?

RMS is very common but not that expensive to fix - just a leaky seal that most 996 and 997 suffer from to some degree. You can usually live with it and replace when the clutch is done.

IMS is very expensive and very rare. Was chatting to my local specialist about it and they haven't had a single occurrence in 7 years, but they see RMS issues every week! Boxa.net owner survey suggested 5% IMS failures, but personally I think that's skewed due to the audience.

Edit - lovely car by the way :)

My folks 996 C4S has been fine.

75k or so on the clock with over 15k of that in the last year and it's been pretty good.

Couple of small faults like the light switch and door handle, but they were easy fixes at home (although the switch was £80 I think).

PermaBanned I am afraid, I've spoken to him via email since I was quite surprised and couldn't imagine what he could have done to earn such a thing.

I wont go into it, it's not my place to do so, but it's certainly a loss. I always found him to be one of the nicest and most helpful members of the forums.

When I was searching for my last Jag he actually took the time too phone me when I was thinking about making a purchase to offer some last minute advice ...actually he phoned me more than once and offered other sorts of help. Top notch bloke who will be missed.

Yes he offered to help a lot of people on here.

Do like very much, however I wouldn't let it out of your site for 5 minutes if I am close otherwise I may be tempted to nick a load of bits off of it for my box :D

Ah, real shame. I know he got a little OTT when he had a couple of drinks but he was one of the good guys on the forum.

As nice as the bloke seemed on here and I had no problem with him, I got the impression he might not have exactly been such a 'good' guy ;)

If you're on his side then it's all peachy, but can imagine if you're not then things could be very nasty.

But he was a laugh and will be missed.

There are a lot of rumours going round, some suggesting that it was all made up, its a very strange situation.

Well from what he has posted in the past can create a pretty good picture/opinion of the type of chap he is, not forming any opinion based on rumour :)

If anythign the alleged goings on (I missed the posts that were removed) would only provide some weight to my own opinion

And not saying that in a bad way against him as he did seem to be a nice bloke a lot of the time, just can tell from his postings the kind of guy he could be. But this is the interwebs afterall and he could just be a 70 year old woman named Phyllis having a laugh with us.

Well I read something on another forum about him.

I'm not saying anything else.

If your talking about the poster who came on and claimed all sorts of facts about him, that could easily be fake.

I myself could quite easily go to a local wifi spot, set up an account, pretend to be someone else and accuse "hurfdurf" of being the best moderator this forum could ever see for instance. Hard evidence is the only thing you can really trust on the internet.

I don't know what the case is, I'm hearing many different things.

Nice purchase and I'm sure you'll love it though tiptronic does sap it quite a bit in my eyes but it's still many leagues on compared to a Mondeo. If it's not had a geo done I strongly suggest this as 911's are all about the setup.

Enjoy.

When my old man first got it I kept trying to make him get a manual, but he is getting on and his knees are a bit ropey, so he plumped for the tip, I am not complaining though, at the end of the day, I still own a Porsche.

Geo is one of the first things I will be getting done, do you have any recommendations for good places down south or know of any Porsche specific forums, as Pistonheads is a bit general.

Targa as described earlier is like a big sunroof now, but it used to be a lift off roof, think in the 996 it just slotted in alongside the S models, was probably a bit more, not too sure, but has the widebody and power of the S models.

What would fit onto your boxster out of interest, know a few bits are interchangeable but wasn't aware of too many.
