This is Dexter our family doggie and against my wishes the other half has booked him in for the op (or chop) ... according to the Vet it's better for a dog as it reduces the risks of problems later in life plus it will reduce his trouser hugging antics which tbh are not really that bad. Sooo I'm asking the beloved peeps of OcUK should it be done or not ?

No, only reason i would have my dogs bits chopped off was if he was peeing everywhere or being violent or leg humping too much.

And i love both dogs and cats :p

Yes, un-neutered male dogs need to mate approximately every six months or they can become increasingly frustrated and sometimes violent as a result. It will help him in doggy social circles and prevent him getting certain types of cancer in later life.

I'm a dog lover.

No. Our cocker spaniel still has his. Only do it if it's truly beneficial and totally required. Ask the question "what would need to happen for you to want to chop yours off".

Vote Yes, we had our Bitch Spayed a few years ago (German Shepherd)

Yes. Cat lover and had both our boys done. But if I had a dog I would also do the same. Its the only responsible thing to do really. (Although it does make me wince to think about it and I regularly apologise to both my boys)
